Power Rangers’ Year of 2017 was a year of ups and downs for fans with surprises and disappointments here and there. But, there were definitely a lot of moments to remember for the good!
We’ve complied a list of our Favorite Top 15 Morphinominally Epic Moments of the year! In no particular order take a look back and remember! Drink every time I say “Epic” 😛
#1. Poisandra’s Figure Sees Limited Release!
After an emboldened battle for her figure to be made Poisandra finally saw a small release alongside an unwanted Red Ranger figure. However, she was extremely hard to find when she was released. There were small quick moments when she was released to online sales on Walmart’s website or she would be pushed in strangely large increments on Walmart shelves.
Either way, Poisandra’s release as a whole is an epic moment in 2017 as it was a win for Villain/Monster & Female Figure collectors! Were you able to add her to your collection?
#2. Lord Drakkon’s Identity & Backstory Revealed!
In Issue #11 of BOOM! Comics’ MMPR Series it was revealed that the evil hybrid of the Green and White Ranger was an alternate dimension version of Tommy Oliver who had chosen to remain evil after the Sword Of Darkness was destroyed. This epic reveal led to several more issues of the Rangers of our dimension facing off against this menacing Ranger who not only commanded an army that would rule over the entire planet, but that would also *spoiler alert* cause several of our favorite heroes to fall. Coinless Power Rangers, Ranger Allies, Familiar faces and even Zords would fight and fall against Lord Drakkon until his eventual defeat, but even that would not completely destroy him. Drakkon will return once more this March for the Shattered Grid story-line which I am sure will bring even more epic moments to 2018! What was your favorite Lord Drakkon moment?
#3. Power Rangers Legacy Wars Released!
At the end of March of 2017 leading off the rush of the Power Rangers Movie, Power Rangers Legacy Wars was introduced to Android and Apple Mobile Users! In this amazing online mobile app you are able to face off against players from around the world as your favorite Power Ranger or Villain as selected from a wide array of characters!
Over the following months dozens of new characters were deployed adding to the tons of users and fun of the game! If you haven’t been playing Legacy Wars now is the time to get on the bandwagon!
#4. Power Rangers / Justice League Team Up
Hmmm…Well, I mean who hasn’t teamed up with the Justice League right? Well this time it’s the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers’ turn! In this eventful six issue run the Power Rangers & the Justice League attempt to stop their own respective villains as their dimensions cross! In an even more interesting twist, Zedd has teamed up with Braniac to shrink down & steal Angel Grove! As the team members clash the battle is won, especially with an epic Megazord battle with an over-sized Alpha 5! The issues are almost worth reading just to see Zack clash with Batman and Wonder Woman and Kimberly team up together! That’s epic enough!
But, is Alpha okay at the end? Only time will tell if more issues are to come!
#5. Legacy Power Sword Released
Released in the summer of 2017 in beautiful 1:1 scale with die-cast parts, action sounds and wonderful red, gold, silver and green detail here comes the Legacy Power Sword! Joining the Legacy Dragon Dagger, Saba and Blade Blaster as one of the most detailed Legacy Power Weapons released, however the Legacy Power Sword is by far the largest ever! This is the perfect addition to any epic cos-player portraying the original Red Ranger, Jason Lee Scott!

#6. Kelson Henderson becomes a Red Ranger!
You affectionately know him has Boom (SPD), Phineas (Mystic Force), Norg (Operation Overdrive) and my personal favorite the voice of Flit from Jungle Fury! Not only that but Kelson Henderson has lent his voice to several monsters in the Disney and Neo Saban Era!
Even in his character Boom’s mind in Power Ranger’s SPD he dreamed of becoming a Power Ranger, but it was never really official. Fans for sure loved the idea and definitely awarded Henderson with the title of honorary Ranger anyways!
Most epic enough his newest character Mick, the mentor of the Ninja Steel Rangers, became a Red Ranger in the season finale “Galvanax Rises” clearly a proud moment for him! Totally awesome!
#7. The 1969 Rangers Meet Their Fate
In Issue #20 of the MMPR saga from BOOM! Comics we learned that Zordon had employed an original team of 5 teenagers and sent them on a mission to the Moon to prevent the release of Rita Repulsa from her space dumpster.
They were Grace, a space-loving secretary from NASADA entrusted with the Red Ranger powers; Nikolai, a Russian KGB agent chosen as the Blue Ranger; Jamie, a British singer chosen as the first Female Black Ranger; Terona, A War veteran who wore the colors of the Yellow Ranger; and Daniel a student and flower-child who became the First Male Pink Ranger!
In this epic issue, we learned that not every choice Zordon makes is perfect and that not every Power Ranger is immortal as several of the ’69 Rangers fall at the hands of the wicked Psycho Green. The power of this story and the magic behind each character plus the mark this tale will leave behind on Power Rangers history makes it one of the most epic moments of 2017.
#8. The Power Rangers Movie Released Worldwide!
On May 7th, 2014 it was announced to fanfare that the Power Rangers would once again be returning to the big screen! Lionsgate would be teaming up with Saban Brands to bring the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers into the 21st Century with new Suits, Zords & Backstories!
The Movie premiered on March 24th, 2017 opening at #2 being beaten only by the Live Action remake of Beauty and the Beast (in its 2nd week). The movie grossed $141,049,631 topping just over its $100 Million budget.
Adding deeper realities with Billy’s autism, Trini’s questioning her sexuality, Kimberly’s quarrels with her friends, Zack’s dying mother, Jason’s clashes with his father and a new amazing look for Rita Repulsa the movie was either a hit or miss with some fans new or old. However, the story itself (straying away from the super-happy teenagers we always see) was a great testament to how friendship and teamwork’s resolve can win the day and that is truly what Power Rangers is about. I personally think the Power Rangers Movie was a win, whether or not a sequel is made and that is why this movie is Epic.
#9. BOOM! Comics Introduces “GO GO Power Rangers!”
After the successes of “MMPR” and “MMPR Pink” BOOM! Comics began releasing another new comic series based on the Mighty Morphin’ Power Ranger teenagers. However, this story would be based on the untold, personal stories of what happens to Jason, Kimberly, Trini, Zack, and Billy following the days after they first became Power Rangers! In these stories we’d also be joined by another friend, Matt, a handsome football player who dated Kimberly long before Tommy came to town. These stories let us get to know the Rangers on a different level as people as well as Power Rangers adding more epic feeling to Power Ranger lore. These stories are completely great so make sure to head out to your local comic shop and pick these up and support them! Plus each issue has another cover that pays tribute to an iconic 80’s teen movie, now that’s epic!
#10. Paul Schrier becomes Yellow Ranger on “Power Rangers Hyper Force”
Power Rangers Hyper Force, a table-top RPG, premiered on October 24th, 2017 streaming live on Twitch to thousands of viewers! The show itself has original characters, Rangers, suits and Zords to go along with their show! The show also boasts the return of former Rangers such as Jen (Erin Cahill), Aisha (Karan Ashley) & Gem (Mike Ginn)!
Along with Peter Sudarso (Preston of Ninja Steel) another former Power Ranger actor was added to the Hyper Force Ranger roster! Paul Schrier, best known as Bulk from many seasons of Power Rangers became Jack “Dealgoode” Thomas the Yellow Hyper Force Ranger! This epic moment celebrates another Legacy cast member being awarded Ranger status and while this universe may not be canon to the show it’s still epic to see Paulie as a Power Ranger nonetheless!

#11. Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger makes First Official Female Green Ranger
Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger, the Super Sentai which holds itself as the series with the most Rangers ever, premiered on February 12th, 2017 starting the team with 9 Rangers and a very over-zealous Red Ranger. But, one of the more awesome aspects of this team to me was that the original roster of 9 had the first official Female Green Ranger! Hammy, ChameleonGreen!
We had however seen Female greens in Gokaiger “Gokai-Changes,” in ToQger “Line Transfers” & in Shuriken Sentai Ninninger, the season preceeding. That Green Ranger however, had only one appearance in a movie and wasn’t considered official. ChameleonGreen however, marked the first time that a Female Green was in the main lineup!
Sadly for Hammy, she hasn’t gotten much attention during the many episodes of Kyuranger so far. But in the time she has had in the spotlight she has proven herself to be a strong force to be reckoned with and I can’t wait to see what is done with her when she is brought over into Power Rangers!
#12. The Lion Fire Fortress Zord becomes Largest Power Ranger Zord Toy Ever!
One of the best and better toys of the Ninja Steel lineup which got most of the commercial attention this year was the Lion Fire Fortress Zord! You literally have to give it up to Bandai America for this one! The Zord itself is over 20″ tall making it the largest Power Rangers Zord in history, even bigger than the previous record holder Pyramidas!
Kids and collectors alike are able to combine this massive Zord with other Megaozrds where Rangers are able to sit inside. Inside of this Fortress you are also able to role-play and capture Villains and Monsters inside of the jail!
That’s what makes this Zord the most epic Ninja Steel Zord released in 2017!
#13. Lord Drakkon Revealed to be Power Morphicon Exclusive Figure!
Yes, Lord Drakkon is on here twice but let me tell you why. Power Morphicon 6 tickets went on sale on August 1st of 2017 and tickets began to sell so crazily that the ticket selling platform even crashed! But one of the benefits this time around was the ability to purchase your Bandai America exclusive figure in advance and avoid missing out! It was also revealed that the first Exclusive Figure would indeed be BOOM! Comics’ Evil creation hybrid Ranger, Lord Drakkon!
What makes this an epic moment on our list is that while I am sure that the figure will be most beautiful and an awesome collectors item; I found it incredibly interesting that Bandai America and the good people at PMC were able to get ticket buyers to shell out $40 per figure (some in multiples) for a figure no one has laid eyes on! Yep, that’s right! There are no images, not even a description, of this figure yet!
Now that is epic!
#14. A Tease of Sledge’s Return
“Guess who’s back?!”
During New York Comic-Con in October 2017 we got a teaser for the remaining episodes of Ninja Steel and a bit of footage for what was to come for Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel in 2018!
But the best part came at the end of the trailer which offered us a very interesting twist that would make even M. Knight Shyamalan blush!
Sledge, Wrench and a new band of cohorts make an appearance on the destroyed stage of Galaxy Warriors!
This made our list of epic moments purely because of the questions it opens up for 2018! Why has Sledge returned? Will he be the new lead Villain or will he be a special guest for the 25th Anniversary Episode? Only time will tell, but we know it surely will be epic!
#15. Dueling Sentai: Patoranger VS Lupinranger Revealed! Capes Return!
Rumors had been swirling after the trademark had been revealed for the 42nd Super Sentai: Patoranger VS Lupinranger which would become the first Super Sentai to include two interacting teams in the same story! In the second week of December 2017 the suits and story were finally revealed! One team is based on Police Officers while the other is based on thieves but both teams are led by a Red Ranger! The story is centered around an eternal struggle (between the two Sentai teams and the villains, the Gangler) for the Lupin Collection which is said to either lead the human race to prosperity or total destruction!
The Ranger motifs for Patoranger throwback to an older generation of Ranger suits with a bold white underlay and a police badge adorning their helmet visor. While the motif for Lupinranger is a darker tone with a black underlay and a similar throwback to Timeranger with a solid colored helmet visor. Lupinranger also welcomed back capes which haven’t been seen on a full Ranger team since Magiranger!
The story, the suits, the idea and the originality so far make this a totally epic entry on our list!
