Comics Alliance unveiled the civilian looks of Zack (wearing a black/gray hoodie with stylish adidas-like shoes), Tommy (in military style pocketed green jacket and jeans), Billy (looking smart in tie and blue cardigan), Kimberly (complete with white denim jacket and adorable pink dress with boots), Trini (dressed with a black tie and yellow long sweater with leggings) & Jason (dressed with letterman jacket and jeans) are very 2016-looking
for their upcoming Boom! Studios Mighty Morphin’ Comics! Artist Hendry Prasetya showcases the new designs above! Needless to say I am in love with all of the outfits pictured!

As an aficionado of both fashion and super sentai series, I’m particularly excited about the Power Rangers’ stylishly updated civilian wear, revealed exclusively here in Hendry Prasetya’s concept art.

Although superhero costumes are often more iconic and memorable than civilian wear, I find that notable civvies can add depth to a character’s identity, especially in an ensemble cast of superheroes. Unlike their corny color-coordinated outfits from the 90’s television series, each Ranger now shows off their individuality without looking like a jarring stereotype.

They also look like they have a better grasp of channeling their Ranger identities through sartorial choices; for example, Jason (Red Ranger) leads the team in a modern Angel Grove varsity jacket, while Billy (Blue Ranger) traded in his wire-framed glasses and overalls for a pair of browline specs and a smart retro cardigan. (Chris Sims, I hope you’re taking notes.)

The Power Rangers’ new threads find the delicate balance between superheroics and style, while maintaining the visual unity of a super sentai team out of costume. I look forward to checking out what these teens with attitude will be wearing in-between fight scenes come next January.”
