Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger: Brave 43 Review

Let’s breakdown Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger: Brave 43 – “A Soulful Sword! Roar, Strazor”

We start off today’s episode with Souji, Daigo, and Torin reviewing Dantetsu’s (King’s Dad) pictures from around the world, apparently preparing for the final attack.

Then King asks Souji about his home life with his father and you see where this is going.

Souji’s father is not mad that he’s learned sword techniques from Torin, but caring that Souji hasn’t mastered Torin’s Torinity Strazor yet due to a lack of “spirit.”

Next, we meet Souji’s mother, Kanda Reiko (who is played by Rei/Dyna Pink! See what they did there with the last name) who is a wealthy designer. She wants to take him from his Dad.

Apparently the divorce was messy and shit going down.

Souji’s mom wants to take him to become a fashion model and to get away from his sword training with his harsh father.

Flashing to the villains, we learn that Endorf has enslaved Dogold and if he doesn’t do his bidding, he’ll be destroyed.

Next up, some Telenovela camera angles and sass are going down. I mean, this is basically a Jerry Springer custody battle.

After the parents argue about Souji, we flash back to the Dogold/Endorf field battle where we get a quick glimpse of a dark, masked figure with the Debo legion insignia on him, lurking in the shadows.

Back at the custody argument, Torin materializes as a human, Torii.

And we learn that Tessai used his identity illusion power to help Torin appear humanly. Torin brings the family together, but not before the masked figure tries to kidnap Souji’s parents!

Back at the battle, Dogold exclaims his loyalty to Master Endorf.

Souji saves his mother, but the masked figure still gets his Dad. This causes Souji to remember that he stayed with his Dad because he was so sad after the divorce.

In turn, Souji saves his Dad by finally using the Torinity Strazor on the masked kidnapper.

Then Souji returns to the team for the battle scene. I lol’ed at this. It’s like King was using a plot line.

Souji uses the Torinity Strazor on the paramonsters and er’one is excited.

The team uses the Seven Voltasaur Victory Maximum Finish on Dogold who instantaneously grows tall due to Endorf’s control rings. No regenerative water for Dogold!

Next, the team calls upon Raiden Kyoryuzin and it’s Pentablade Lightning Brave Finish to destroy Dogold, but he gets away by deconstructed flying mask shard.

At the end of the episode, foreshadowing takes place and we learn that these masked Debo people are actually new commanders!! Ohhhh ahhhhh.

Review

Although this episode was a character development episode, it felt sort of forced and filler-esque. Like, Souji’s plot was a custody battle I think I saw on a Televnovela a while back. I enjoyed the Endorf/Dogold stuff, but it seemed like a sparse episode: No spirit rangers, no Canderlia, no new weapons or combos, no crazy mecha finish. Fine episode; not the worst, not the best. Overall, I would say a 6.5 out of 10 because they tried. haha

SIX MORE TO GO.

Sidenote

At the end of the episode (and a little in the opening sequence) we got a look at the new Go-Buster vs Kyoryuger (vs every dino sentai season) movie coming out at the end of this month as well as a look at the new Sentai, Tokkyuger!!

CAN I ALREADY BE OBSESSED WITH BLUE. They look fun and OMG I’m excited. I like the suits, but the mechas are still a rainbow stretch. Curious to see where they take it! Ahhhh
