Power Hoodiez Owner Sued by Saban!

A few months ago during Halloween it was reported that Haim Saban (the creator of Power Rangers)’s company SCG Power Rangers LLC targeted small operations of creators of look-a-like Power Rangers costumes. The charge? Infringing on copyright and trademarks!

But in another strange turn of events, a product that I have reviewed here several times has been targeted for the same exact charge.
Power Hoodiez!

“Now comes a new lawsuit that raises the stakes. In SCG’s latest case, the company isn’t going after costumes per se, but rather hooded sweatshirts that appear to have some geometric design symmetry to its claimed intellectual property.”

Los Angeles resident, Michael Alen in Business Marketing is now the defendant in the lawsuit!

“SCG says that the defendant (who couldn’t be reached for comment) never got permission to use Power Rangers Intellectual Property in connection with sweatshirts, that the merchandise has created confusion in the marketplace as to its source, and wants to punish the defendant for willful violations of copyright and trademark law.”

The article above mentioned that several websites have given the hoodies “glowing” reviews and I am happy to say that Morphin’ Legacy was one of the first websites to give the “Power Hoodiez” brand most of its business increase. I have to saw that the phrase “Power Hoodiez” is the most searched phrase on this website and the original article I posted many months ago is also one of the most viewed pages in the entire history of my site. Not to mention if you Google “Power Hoodiez” we are the second site on the list.

I must also say that I have the Green Ranger hoodie sitting in my closet right now (with the gold trim!) that I purchased from there last year and I must say that the customer service was fantastic. However, if Saban feels like its infringing on his copy written material then I must side with him on this one, after all when I first found the site I wondered how they were getting away with it. But shouldn’t the makers of certain Power Rangers shirts, Zord parts, Reprolabels or other such custom Power Rangers items be held to the same standard?

I hope not! Because I love certain small business that cater to the Power Rangers Universe! I reprolabeled my Dragonzord and it looks awesome!

All I can say, in conclusion, is  that I hope Saban realizes there is a real business for this sort of attire and instead tries to market it himself. These hoodiez are awesome and always a conversation starter at parties! I just feel kinda sad that we, in a small way, helped dig Power Hoodiez grave!
