Preface

It’s been over a month since the previous issue of Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers so here’s what you need to remember.

In this corner, we got a 5 dino mecha tag-teamed with a gigantic lizard vs. a preying mantis, a spider, a flying beast from hell, and a humanoid scorpion with a defined chest.

Let’s Get Ready to Rumble!

The Cover

I absolutely love this cover. It’s my favorite of the entire set. The giant scale of the Megazord and the Dragonzord is eclipsed by the titanic scale of King Ghidorah as it is breathing fire down, painting an epic battle between them all. And, even as it depicts a fight scene, it also highlights all of our human heroes and villains. This cover balances a lot of elements well.

The Story

The Megazord and Godzilla defeat the army of monsters through teamwork which makes Rita angry. She forces the Xiliens to release their deadliest monster of them all: King Ghidorah, a three-headed dragon from god knows where. As soon as it’s released, it crushes the Megazord and then drains Godzilla of its energy. All is hunky dory in Rita’s eyes until the King attacks the Xiliens’ ship, the beast being uncontrollable for either side.

The monster’s attacks disrupt the systems on the ship and the cell holding Tommy loses power, allowing the teenager to escape. But, before he jumps ship entirely, one of the Xiliens is like, “That Rita witch is crazy! Take your Morpher and get her and you and your friends out of this dimension so we can do our jobs of taking over the world like normal!”

The issue soon ends with Rita deciding to teach King Ghidorah a lesson by sending down her own monsters to fight the three-headed beast. Those monsters are Goldar, Scorpina, Grumble Bee, Slippery Shark, and Snizzard!

Ending Thoughts

Story-wise, this issue doesn’t add much as it’s another extended fight sequence. The only story bits it establishes are that King Ghidorah was unleashed and Tommy gets to rejoin the fight. But, the action here is more than sufficient to entertain readers. The art does the fighting justice, especially in regards to the sequence between King Ghidorah vs. Godzilla and the Megazord. Like the cover, the artwork shows the absolute scale of King Ghidorah as it annihilates all of the heroes. The presence of King Ghidorah escalates the story and action in a whole new way and should lead to a satisfying conclusion with the next issue.

Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #4 unleashes the 10,000 Year Old Dragon with both sides, hero and villain, desperate to stop its rampage.

Random Thoughts from the Morphin’ Grid

  • So, just to recap, the fight with the Megazord vs. Godzilla resulted in a tie and the fight with the Dragonzord vs. Godzilla And, yes. I did have to look all of those Kaiju names because seriously, who would remember them all?
  • Don’t forget. The final issue releases in September and we just now learned about the sequel to the MMPR / TMNT crossover releasing in December. We live in a wild time.
