It’s “Take Your Family To Battle” Day!

The Story
The force field around the Command Center is holding against the Machine Empire’s attacks, but it won’t last long. Rocky offers to help Matt out, but Matt declines and says he has to protect his identity and stay with his family in the Power Chamber. As Matt walks into battle, Zordon stops him for a second and gives him his late blessing to be a Power Ranger.
On Leonis, the capital homeworld of the Lion Galaxy, Billy lays out his plan. The location of the Command Center is cloaked so Tommy and Aisha will sneak into a party run by King Vieron to use a device to disrupt the cloaking mechanism located on King Vieron’s person. Meanwhile, Adam and Kim will infiltrate security and disable satellites that prevent the Rangers from teleporting the Command Center off-world. Billy will coordinate everything from the ship. Alpha plans on being Tommy and Aisha’s backup at the party, but Tommy doesn’t think it’s a good idea.
Tommy and Aisha climb into the courtyard at the royal palace and blend in with some “borrowed” clothes from two innocent partygoers. As Aisha is forced to have a conversation with a few *ugh* politicians, Tommy meets King Aradon. Tommy almost blows his cover immediately after failing to understand space politics, but don’t worry, the best hairdresser in the universe saves him. And by that, I mean, Alpha walks in and attracts all attention to him.
Back on Earth, after hearing King Aradon’s generous offer of surrendering, Matt fights him and his forces with poor results. Rocky and the others hatch a plan to use the Dragon Dagger as an EMP device, but even that isn’t effective. Rocky realizes that he needs to go and help, but it means potentially revealing his identity to his family. However, Zordon has a new rule for the Power Rangers: “Never Lose Another Ranger”.
And so, Rocky morphs into action and the battle continues.
Ending Thoughts
Well-rounded issue. With the Machine Empire conflict, I found myself enjoying King Aradon as a villain. His personality as this boastful conqueror differs from the likes of Lord Zedd and Rita where he acts prideful and gets a few laughs every now and then. Personally, the best scenes from the issue come from Zordon’s new approach to being a mentor by disregarding his previous rules and focusing on doing what’s right for his Rangers. The scenes of the “heist” so far haven’t done much to interest me yet, but I will give credit where it’s due. It has a ton of varied character designs and fun easter eggs, references to the larger PR universe, and most importantly, Alpha in a top hat.
Mighty Morphin #19 has both of our 6th Rangers being saved, one by a mustache-wearing robot and the other by a simple teenager protecting his family.
Random Thoughts from the Morphin’ Grid
- I completely accept Robin’s choices for favorite Rangers. (No way is Matt getting at the top of anyone’s list)
- Apparently, the Mandalorian is at this party so this is going to go sour any moment now.
- Every time we get the trope of characters stealing someone’s clothes, you gotta think about where their original clothes are. Especially with these outfits where we can see the characters’ chests.
