Preface

This is it. The final issue of Go Go Power Rangers ever.

Will all of our questions be answered? Where do the Omega Ranger powers come from? What truly happened to the Psycho Dagger? Will we ever know where the Yellow Emissary went? Will our lord and savior, Tor the Shuttlezord, finally appear? Will we ever go back to Flashback Land?

This and more on Go Go Power Rangers #32.

The Cover

Like I said last time, these two issue’s covers are all one picture. The concept of these covers visually connecting with each other is a clever way to signify that these are two important issues for readers to enjoy. That, and it visually signifies the story of these two issues, bridging the lives of Jason, Zack, and Trini to their lives as Omega Rangers. Not to mention, it looks nice.

The Story

On the Deserted Planet, the Power Rangers retrieve the Sword of Light necessary for the Power Transfer between Jason, Zack, and Trini and the newbies (Rocky, Adam, and Aisha). They teleport back to the Command Center right as Lord Zedd uses Serpentera’s laser breath to destroy the planet. Unlike the TV show version, where the Rangers immediately use the Sword, they wait a day as the Stone Canyon trio are eagerly anticipating becoming Rangers. And, also, Tommy tells Jason off for doing the Power Transfer, basically calling him a coward and leaving the team when they need it the most.

Once the Power Transfer is complete, Jason, Zack, and Trini say their goodbyes to everyone and both teams go their separate ways. The new Mighty Morphin’ team’s first training session doesn’t go too well, with Kim criticizing the overuse of puns and jokes from the new trio. Billy confronts Grace from Promethea that he knows she still has the Psycho Dagger. He agrees to keep it a secret under the condition she helps him with a secret experiment. The Peace Conference trio joins Kiya on Safehaven where they receive the Omega Ranger powers, powers from some of the earliest Rangers in the universe.

After Tommy gives the newest members of his team pity smoothies and Jason tells the others he’s glad they’re with him on this journey, both teams discover the newest monsters they must deal with. The fight against evil never ends. It’s Morphin’ Time!

Ending Thoughts

When I saw that final page, I knew this was the perfect way to end the series.

For starters, it’s a spectacular piece of artwork of all our Rangers in action, with both teams mirroring each other in their own unique way. Second, it’s a representation of the next chapter for all of our heroes. The series started with the main 5 Rangers so ending it with them being broken up gives this finale a melancholy vibe to it, especially with the Mighty Morphin’ team not knowing the truth of their departure. And then, there’s the aspect of this I love the most. The final words of this issue (as well as this entire series) are “Go. Go.” It’s such a creative way of saying the title of the series without saying it directly. All of these aspects together make this final page the perfect representation for the whole series.

And, of course, there’s a lot more to appreciate about this issue. We finally see the origin of the Omega Rangers and I appreciate how this is a special ceremony like the Rangers gaining the Ninja Power in Ninja Quest. I love the parallel between the conversation with Jason and Tommy here and the conversation between them in MMPR Issue #45. Here, he’s berating Jason’s behavior for leaving, but in that issue, he’s grateful for the Red Ranger being there for him. What hurts from both instances is Jason not being able to tell Tommy the truth. And, even though this is a finale, it does a good job of setting up MMPR’s next big mystery: what’s Billy’s secret project.

I’ll talk more about this series later, but for now, know that Go Go Power Rangers #32 is a truly morphinonmenal finale.

Random Thoughts from the Morphin’ Grid

  • Great. We’re trusting a kid that has difficulty remembering his locker combination and giving him keys to a dino bot.
  • One thing I wish could’ve happened was that Issue #32 was just a normal issue and then there was an extra finale issue, similar to the Forever Rangers special. Only reason for this is to give the story a little breathing room and introduce us fully to Rocky, Adam, and Aisha. I know this series was about the main five (+ Tommy), but I still would like something more from them. The thing with their characters so far? In both MMPR and GGPR? They’re just the newbies. That’s it. I know MMPR S2 didn’t give them much to really do, but I’m ready to finally move past that point and tell me more.
  • Adding on to that point? The book should’ve had yearbook entries for everyone like the first issue. Just general things like “Rocky DeSantos: Just Wants to Have Fun”, “Adam Park: Really Hates Frogs”, or “Aisha Campbell: Has looks that can literally kill you”
  • Also, now the question remains, how in the world did they fake the news coverage of them being chosen as delegates?
  • It’s been subtle, but now looking back on it, there’s a reason why Billy wasn’t that outspoken against Jason, Zack, and Trini when they learn about the Omega Ranger identities. He’s been keeping a secret of his own.
  • We still don’t know what Billy’s experiment is in the main series. I want to say it’s another Ranger, maybe the Phantom Ranger, but I’d be fine if it’s our lord and savior, Tor. Because there’s nothing else I can think of right now.
  • Now that I know the explanation of the Omega Zords, I like them a lot more now. Before they just seemed a bit random, now, there’s an actual cool reason for these Zords to be shaped as god-like beings.
  • The Danger Dingo is cool and all, but where’s my disco monster? Where is it?!
  • Also, I think it’s a reference that this final monster is located in Australia, the place the Rangers actually were invited to go to in “The Wedding.” But, maybe that’s just me.
  • This is probably the Blue Emissary’s final appearance. I’ll miss him deeply. Still wondering where the Yellow one is at, though.
  • So, about Serpentera… In the show, immediately after the Power Transfer, Serpentera attacks the city and the new team of Rangers defends it off until it runs out of energy. Here, it’s not mentioned later in the story, giving the idea that Serpentera is always looming overhead and ready to strike. That fits in with everyone’s attitude towards Jason, Zack, and Trini leaving, but at the same time, it makes Zedd look dumb for not even attempting to attack again.
