Preface

Let’s just get into it. What else is there to say?

The Cover

Is this just Kim’s idea of a selfie? Just fall from a giant building and take a picture before you plummet to your death? Why is this even a thing?

The Story

Grace Sterling, government lady from last issue, tells the Rangers that she just so happened to be in Dubai and needed to tell the Rangers something important. A month ago, a two-person plane from her company disappeared above a village that doesn’t exist on any map and is totally masked in a purple fog. And just today, she got pictures of Finster and other monsters in that said village.

The Rangers teleport there and run into the human locals, who decide to take the Rangers to their “master” AKA Finster. Finster says “Hi” from his giant castle and all of the locals transform into a bunch of Putties. The Rangers take care of them using the Power Blaster….

Epic.

Two of the locals transform into monsters of the week and four of the Rangers deal with them while Jason and Tommy teleport inside the castle to rescue the pilots. After hesitating for a second and thinking they’re fake, the Rangers free the pilots as they explain that Grace Sterling was actively looking for Finster.

The Rangers finish off the monsters as Finster explains that he’s been using the two pilots to learn how to create monsters and putties disguised as humans. Once all of the other Rangers come in the castle, Finster surrenders and is captured by the Rangers.

Grace and her government agents arrive at the village and thank the Rangers for their help. She also asks the Rangers if they would want to work with Promethea and help guide them to future threats. Jason politely declines and they all teleport out of there.

Back at the Command Center, Zack asks Jason about reconsidering Grace’s offer when a breaking news alert tells the Rangers that some of Finster’s disguised monsters have escaped and are now loose in the world.

Ending Thoughts

Having Finster be the main villain of this issue (and possibly this storyline, We’ll see how this plays out) was a delightful surprise. He shined as a villain, having this sort of “mad scientist” vibe to him that definitely differentiates him from a villain like Rita.

Grace… I can’t get a vibe on her yet. Usually, government guys in stories like this, you can tell they’re going to be jerks from the very second they show up. Grace isn’t totally nice, but she does treat the Rangers with some respect and professionalism. The fact that Grace is definitely hiding something does help add to the mystery and creepy tone that’s set up from Finster’s plot.

This was another great issue and I can’t wait for the next one!

Random Thoughts from the Morphin’ Grid

  • Even though they don’t explicitly say it, Finster’s little village is most likely the one from his story from the 2017 annual. That’s cool because it not only builds up the continuity from that mini-story, but it does add to the creepy and spooky tone from that story.
  • It might be a trivial thing, but it is really cool to see the Power Blaster after so much time.
