Ninja Steel Episode 6 “My Friend, Redbot” Review

After the sour taste left in my mouth that last week’s episode left, we actually got a rather sweet treat this week with “My Friend, Redbot.” Redbot became a lot more human and Hayley got the much-needed focus she deserved. Plus we got another allusion to Madame Odius’ plot against Galvanax! Let’s take a look back at some of the moments from this week’s Ninja Steel!

Redbot and Hayley: Redbot has always been a rather sweet character, being a robot who is able to feel and have emotions. To me, this makes me like him vastly more than RoboKnight. I found it rather adorable that he wanted to invite Hayley to the dance, however it was rather cold of Hayley to shoot him down like that. It was a rather unexpected reaction from Hayley to be honest. But, that was what this episode was about. It was about Hayley discovering just how human Redbot is. Hayley “hurt his feelings” and as a result he ran away into the forest but was still there for her and rescued her when she needed help. He showed true bravery and took a blast to the leg and then rocketed her to safety. It was just a cute little story for this episode which ended even cuter when the two of them shared a dance.

Badpipes: Badpipes was actually a fairly formidable monster if you think about it. He had several weapons in his arsenal. The bagpipes which controlled the minds of his victims, he had a samurai fan, an extended nose which he used in the Megazord battle and he was able to fly! But, how many times are the monsters going to use their powers to trick the Rangers into giving up their Power Stars? Repetitive…
I was loving his entrance scene where he was controlling the Kudabots into dancing and even can-caning as well! He even had Cosmo Royale in on the gag UNTIL, the dreaded fart joke. Ungh, this is really getting annoying. Probably my biggest complaint about this series so far, which is kind of small if you think about it. But it totally ruined that awesome scene for me.

Messy Gags: There seems to be a lot of repeating gags in Ninja Steel, as were in Dino Charge, that seem to be getting a little thin. Messy gags where the Rangers or side characters get splashed with something through some wacky circumstances have been happening a lot and we are just 6 episodes in. This happened a lot with Dino Charge was well with the pie gag. It just really seems to be wearing really thin and losing any comedy it had to begin with.

Kody, Honorary Dog Ranger: I was loving Kody’s involvement in this episode. He seemed like a really valuable tool, not only to the Hayley but to the Rangers as well. He was able to track Redbot, lead the Rangers to Hayley, dig and screw with the monster & give the Rangers an out and then took the monster’s weapon so the Ranger’s could destroy it! Now that’s a good boy!

Brody and Ripcon: As with other episodes Brody has to interject himself somehow into the focus episodes of other Rangers. However, I don’t think he really did that this episode. Sure, he had an epic fight scene with Ripcon but it  actually felt fluid and natural to the scene. The other Rangers took on Badpipes and Ripcon came to Earth as well. It makes sense that Ripcon would want to take on Brody alone as they obviously have a rivalry going on! Plus, like I mentioned above, that fight scene was amazing! Who doesn’t like Ninja Scarecrows?

Madame Odius’ Stowaway: Probably the best minute in the entire episode occurred when Madame Odius went rogue once again and ventured into a secret room inside of Galvanax’s ship. Apparently, she’s hiding a stowaway and transferring the power of the Gold Power Star into him! Now, I am loving that they are finally touching on this again because this is probably the most interesting aspect of Ninja Steel so far. But, who is the stowaway? Is it Brody’s brother Aiden or someone else? Time will tell, but I am excited to find out what will come from Madame Odius’ treachery!

Calvin and Sarah Dance: I was so happy to see this scene because we all know of Nico Greetham and Chrysti Ane’s dancing background. To actually see them dance just for a moment filled me with happiness! It was a nice little easter egg to watch them dance together! Kudos to production for making that happen!

Victor and Monty: I was also happy that Victor and Monty got back to their old schtick and make up for last week. Victor’s original dancing scene was ridiculously hilarious and only Chris Reid could’ve made it that way! The hilarity of the dancing shoes was great however and only cements this classic Victor and Monty comedy that I’ve grown to love. “It’s Dance O’clock!”
Plus, how can you not love that outfit Victor had on? Disco Balls, sign my ass up!

This episode was good and had some very cute moments, but also had some pretty bad ass moments. Including the battle with Ripcon and Madame Odius pushing her plot-line forward. I can’t wait to see how the battle with Ripcon and Madame Odius’ treachery will play out.
There’s no new episode next week, but Ninja Steel will be back the following week with a double header! I’ll be sure to space out my reviews however! Stay Tuned!
