Dino Charge “Let Sleeping Zords Lie” Episode 7 Review

Episode Review

After a tiny lull last week with our first real filler episode, this week Dino Charge comes back swinging!
“Let Sleeping Zords Lie” finally addresses the issues between Kendall and Shelby, introduces a new Zord and allows for some side villains to bask in the sunlight! Poisandra and Curio are on point and focused more so than any other episode so far! The producers show off original Zord footage!
Seven Episodes in and so far and Dino Charge is a powerful contender!

Titanosaurus: The Rangers are out on a dig and while Shelby drinks all of the guys’ drinks, hilariously, she comes up with a new plan to find Energems!
During Shelby’s discussion of the which Dinosaurs remain to be found, she mentions the 10th Dinosaur as the Titanosaurus.
Obviously this Dino is the Bracchiosaurus but it looks like we’ve gotten a change in name. A lot of people out there showed either confusion as to why they changed the name of the Dino and keep it as the real Dino name.
I for one love this idea, we’ve changed the names of animals and such in the past in the favor of Zord names. Let me redirect you to another Bracchio Zord who changed their name; Titanus.

Poisandra Goes Rogue: I couldn’t wait for something like to this to happen and it finally did. Poisandra and Curio set out with Wrench with their own plan to get some Energems. In this episode we get a lot of Poisandra focus and I love it! All of the lines written for her are so snarky and sassy  that you can’t not love her! The interactions we have seen between Poisandra and any of her subordinates is always some of the best scenes, not to mention this very scene where Poisandra and Curio are  treated to a mani pedi massage session!
Fury is not too pleased by the end of the episode, it looks like their rivalry is blossoming!

Shelby and Kendall: I’ve said this before and It seems to be a welcome addition in Dino Charge. Character Development is playing a big role in many of the Rangers’ back stories and subsequent focus episodes. In this episode we finally see some sort of reconciliation between Shelby and Kendall. Kendall for what seems like the first time, is finally realizing that Shelby is a force to be reckoned with and that she does have a great mind.
Shelby actually stood up for herself and again this makes her character so much deeper. She actually had a fantastic idea and it was with this idea that broke the ice between her and Kendall. Kendall is finally realizing that Shelby isn’t just a simple waitress.

The Ankylo Charger: Shelby’s brilliant idea called for the location of the Ankylo Zord and Energem. Because of the work that Shelby and Kendall worked together, they created the Ankylo Charger! The machine they created was able to trace the signal of the Aqua Energem and eventually led them to the Ankylo Zord! I have to say that during this scene I love the effects used when the energy drained from the Rangers’ Chargers into the new Charger. It was beautifully done.

ML15556

Unmorphed Fight: As the Rangers first confront Stingrage we got a pretty badass unmorphed fight! Seeing all of the Rangers fight the monsters and Vivix together was fantastic! The stunts the actors performed were fabulously choreographed especially Koda who was spinning and flipping all over the place!

ML15619

The Stinger: Koda was stung by Stingrage’s stinger during their first run-in with him! The stinger caused Koda to attack his friends in a massive rage.
This scene was great because it finally brought on the group dynamic of this team, where they were all desperate to save their friend. The team has grown closer. Yoshi Sudarso, played off Evil Koda perfectly!

ML15637

Ankylo Zord Footage: We got some beautiful original footage in this episode of the Ankylo Zord. There was original footage of the Zord pushing up from the earth and inside the hole with Shelby! I am becoming more and more happy with this season because of small attentions to detail such as this! Original Zord footage is rare!

ML15897

Kendall Fights: For the first time we got to see Kendall fight, unmorphed and without the help of the Rangers!
Continuing with the strange theme this season, Kendall uses a shovel to fight off the Vivix. Soon, the shovel will be the most powerful weapon in their arsenal! I hope we get more fight scenes with Kendall in the future, but hopefully at the time she’ll be in purple.

ML15969

Poisandra VS Chase: I can’t tell you how much I loved this scene! My Favorite Villain in the show facing off against my Favorite Ranger! I will tell you that I find Poisandra’s one-liners more satisfying than when the Rangers spout off while fighting. Just this small part of the episode has to be my favorite part of the episode!

ML151038

Shelby’s Lead: The Pink Ranger truly shined in this episode and again separates herself apart from the other Neo-Saban Pink Rangers. While Mia and Emma had moments in the sun they rarely fought for themselves with wit or showed much leadership like Shelby has!
Shelby rode in on top of the Ankylo Zord and flew in with amazing Wire-Fu and attacks with her Drill to destroy the monster alone! What a heroine! Seriously, she is putting Mia and Emma to massive shame!

ML15984

Stingrage: Rangers have turned bad before but I rather enjoyed the theme of this monster. He is based on Virus or Plague, his most significant accomplishment seems that his stingers cause the person to turn bad! Koda went bad for a few moments and it was great, especially when the Rangers had to work together to get their friend back!

ML151197

Tri-Ankylo Formation: For the first time the Ankylo Zord joins the battle and combines with the Dino Charge Megazord. It looks as if, since taming it herself, Shelby is in power of the Ankylo Zord at this time. But the mysterious Aqua Ranger is still out there!
It was great, again, to see the 5 person team in the cockpit and when the Megazord spins around to land the final punch is fantastic!

ML151320

Dino Dung: First we get to find out that Koda’s Grandfather invented the wheel! Just when you thought more hilarity can’t ensue, Kendall walks up to the table with a gift for Shelby (which apparently comes from the Museum and not her).
Kendall tells her its a fossil from her favorite Dinosaur, but it turns on to be crappy. Literally.
The reason why I love this interaction so much is because we finally got to see Kendall and Shelby get along and work together. Then, at the end she gives her a box of petrified poop! Love these two! LOL.

Final Thoughts

Another great episode of Dino Charge! This series can’t be stopped!
As I said earlier I was very happy with the continuation of Character Development with Kendall and Shelby. What I am loving about Dino Charge so far this season is that the episodes don’t solely focus on one thing. The episodes all have a balance of Character defining moments, moments that push the plot forward, Villain focus and Ranger Suited & Megazord footage. I don’t believe such a balance has been achieved in quite some time.
This season we are actually getting original story, content and footage and I could not be happier!
As we approach the hiatus, I am happy that the quality of episodes has not dropped!
