If you go into this episode with a complete and utter clear mind with perhaps no knowledge of Gokaiger or of Power Rangers RPM, you may enjoy this episode just a bit more than others. While the episode is enjoyable there were too many plot holes to over look. Not to mention the many details of RPM that could’ve made this episode better had they been included or explained. While the episode had many awesome and some hilarious moments, it still disappoints in a few ways.
Professor Cog: Back for more after his battle with the RPM and Samurai Rangers, Professor Cog tricks the Super Mega Rangers into heading into the RPM Ranger’s dimension while he attacks Earth in their absence. Not a bad idea at all.
I have heard this idea from several others so I will not claim it as my own, but wouldn’t it have made a tiny bit of sense to simply paste a sepia-filter over the footage of Professor Cog and call that Corinth instead of him re-appearing on Earth? However, it looks that doesn’t quite work for the epic Machalcon footage that the production team actually seemed eager to use.
Also, can we talk about the first scene where Professor Cog steals a tractor, I mean come on. How random is that!
Corinth: “Since the great battle with Venjix, the people of Corinth stepped out of the domed city and began to emulate the RPM Rangers who had saved the day. As the years went by more and more highways were built and great races were held in the style of the Rangers’ Racing-Style Zords.”
There. In one half-assed sentence I explained why Corinth is the way it is. I just made that up while writing this and yet the writers of the show could not come up with even an explanation as to why Corinth is no longer sepia colored and suddenly covered with race-tracks. If you take it in regards to the Sentai Footage meeting Turbo Falcon in this kind of setting would make sense as it took place in Machine World. However, for loyal viewers of Power Rangers RPM this is no where near the Corinth remembered.
While I love the footage used here, I just wish there had been somewhat of an explanation besides Gosei claiming that Corinth had been peaceful for a while.
The Turbo Falcon Zord: As I said earlier, I love this footage from Gokaiger and therefore that actually works when you take it out of context and just enjoy the taming of the Turbo Falcon. The Turbo Falcon actually spoke in Gokaiger much like his Go-Onger counterparts and the silence was rather well achieved during the Corinth and Megazord battle scenes!
I can say that the sound effects added for this scene are actually rather good making the battle scenes epic.
Vekar Vs Professor Cog: I fell in love with these scenes! Prince Vekar interacting and sassing another Villain faction was hilarious!
One of my favorite lines was when Professor Cog is like “Oh Come On!” when his plan is interrupted by another faction besides the Rangers! The fight that ensues is pretty awesome!
Again, I loved that it took them a moment to figure out that the best course of action is to team up! Hilarious, because of course Vekar and his higher ups flee!
Another RPM Change: Another Full RPM Change in this episode; which of course is to be conceived as the RPM Tribute episode. I loved this change a lot more than the others because we got a better change with the helmets and high kicks famous in Go-Onger and RPM. Plus those adorable poses.
I absolutely love that each of the RPM weapons got use in this episode. For some unexplained reason, Jake and Troy join together with their RPM Finisher, but it was still interesting to see and hear Jake make “out-of-balance” noises.
My only complaint about this scene? The Rangers, again, never shut up the entire time!
End of Professor Cog: I have never really enjoyed the formations of the Legendary Megazord where the legs are removed and the rest of the body rides. It’s never looked that appealing to me even in Gokaiger. So that’s why I was not too impressed, even though I’ve seen it, by this new combination. However, the fight against Professor Cog was brilliant and everything that Gokaiger Mecha Battles had to offer!
Final Thought
All that can be said about this episode is what can be said about most of the episodes in Super Megaforce. The fight, Megazord and Villain sequences look amazing and add to the excitement that this season should have. On the other hand when it comes to this anniversary season it still seems apparent it is being written by people who don’t know much about the franchise they are writing about. This has been apparent in many of the cameos and “tribute” episodes this season.
However, like I said earlier if you turn off your better judgement, had you viewed Power Rangers RPM, the episode is much more enjoyable.
