Ressha Sentai ToQger: Station 3 Review

TOOT-TOOT RESSHA SENTAI TOQGER. Let’s go! Today’s episode is entitled: “If She’s Imagined It, She’ll Put Her Life on the Line!”

In today’s episode, we start with the team, Ticket, and Mr. Conductor discussing their previous life.  It’s confusing. Apparently the team just appeared on the Rainbow Line because of their strong imaginations and rejection of darkness?

And Right rejected darkness so much that he was thrown on to the Shadow Line?

Right wonders if leaving the Rainbow Line would bring their memories back…. And Ticket harshly tells them that they can search for their memories, but protecting the world is their main commitment.

When we get back from the intro, Wagon is taking selfies. OH my god I love her.

At the back of the train, Right finds Kagura in dismay and gives her a candy treat. Kagura misses home, family, and her memory. Right tries to be a good friend and tells her that she can leave the train to find her memory if that’s what she wants. (PS the music here was absolutely amazing. I love the classical strings this year.)

After Right’s trip to the bathroom, he tries to steal Ticket from Mr. Conductor’s hand. “Ticket is not a puppet.”

As the Rainbow Line stops at a train station, Kagura sees the words “home” on a poster. She walks off the train to see the poster better, but then the Rainbow Line leaves her. A second later, the Shadow Line stops and our monster of the week, Chain Shadow, disembarks. Kagura follows him alone and tries to fight him, but is instead thrown into a coffin by him. Also, Chain Shadow asks a valid question.

Back at the Shadow Line base, Madame Noire and Baron Nero discuss Chain Shadow…

Shortly after, General Schwarz enters and he drops his hanky. (Sidenote: GS is waiting to attack the ToQgers until he has enough data on them.) Grita picks up the hanky to give back to him, but General Schwarz says that he doesn’t keep things once they’ve been dropped on the ground. This allows Grita to keep the hanky and sends her into some sort of weird nirvana. This whole infatuation plot is creepy as hell.

Back on the Rainbow Line, the team realizes that they left Kagura at the last station. Mr. Conductor decides that this is a big enough deal and turns the train around to go pick her up. At Peace/Death Valley Elementary, Chain Shadow plays on the piano. I mean, how creepy as fuck is that. He sends the spying kids into the coffin with Kagura; this causes the kids to emit darkness.

The rest of the team finds Chain Shadow and his coffin. They morph and Right jumps into the coffin to save Kagura and the kids.

Right tries to save her, but Kagura realizes that she wants to help people, not selfishly look for her town. This causes Kagura to go  “Ultimate Super Girl” mode and destroys the coffin from within.

Although Kagura is kicking butt, Right realizes that her imagination is past her limits and is risking her life. When they were younger, Kagura imagined she was a mermaid so much that she almost drowned (along with Right who was trying to save her).

Right transforms and throws her into a pool to calm her down. This causes them to remember that their town was by the ocean! JOY. Also, how many times do you seen ranger/sentai suits in a pool/water. Tis’ really awesome. Right also explains that it’s not that he doesn’t want to go home, but that he doesn’t want to lose the world to darkness for a town he doesn’t remember.

Right and Kagura switch lines and we get ToQ1 as Pink and ToQ5 as Red. I love a pink male and red female so much every time.

They call upon the Coupling Bazooka and today’s imaginative finishing attack is Kagura’s “Plier Punishment.” You know, where giant PINK PLIERS SNIP CHAIN SHADOW APART. Lolololol

Chain Shadow dies and dark spirits grow him. The team calls upon ToQ-Oh, but Chain Shadow puts them into a coffin! The team is starting to run out of imagination energy, but have no fear, Right uses ToQ-Oh’s Red Express penis to break out of the coffin. hahahahahaha I’m sorry I had to.

The ToQgers use the Crossing Sword’s Express Slash to cut Chain Shadows chain’s apart for good. I really love how the mecha rides out of battle on tracks. Perfect.

We leave the ToQgers excited about finding their home one day!

Review

I really enjoyed today’s episode. I loved the Kagura focus and the emotion that came with today’s episode, ie the orchestrated strings. Chain Shadow was a pretty plain monster, but still portrayed a pretty dark side. I like how this show is explaining what happened to them so confusingly because it blurs the line on what it is true and what is just imagination. The darkness and creepiness of the Shadow Line commanders is also really awesome, because some weird shit is going on underneath the surface. I give this episode a strong 7 out of 10!

PS – In future reviews I will tag them as both SimplyScott1/PowerSentai since PowerSentai is my power rangers twitter handle and PowerSentaiHeadquarters is my tumblr url. Just for clarity if you want to follow me on either!

Until next time, this has been SimplyScott1/PowerSentai. Stay imaginative!
