Megaforce Episode 19 “The Messenger” Episode Review

Well, we’re nearing the end of Season 20 and progressing to what we’ve all been waiting for, Super Megaforce. If there’s something that Power Rangers and in this case Megaforce, knows how to do it is to go out with a bang. Everything about “The Messenger” was fantastic and I think I may have to grasp at straws to come up with things I didn’t enjoy. The action, the story progression and an intro of a new character all made this one of the best episodes of Megaforce and one of my personal favorites. More about that later, let’s get to what happened!

After a brief recap of “The Human Condition” the Rangers celebrate their defeat of the Insectoids!

The Rangers congratulate each other and remember all the baddies they’ve defeated! Noah proposes a toast to RoboKnight

The blast is so strong the Rangers are blasted from the building as Metal Alice laughs that her repairs deleted his humanity!

Vrak and Troy have at it but Cyborg Vrak is much stronger than before

The rest of the team look on as Vrak nearly obliterates Troy and then decide to join the fight by going into Ultra Mode as well!

Vrak arms the missile anyways but suddenly becomes unstable, he demands he be taken back to the lab and the duo escapes!

The missile must be stopped, RoboKnight morphs into Lion Zord and the Rangers use the Megaforce Blaster and take out the missile!

Metal Alice advises Vrak that she needs to shut him down for repairs but is suddenly interrupted by a new voice.

He is a special envoy from the Armada, there to make sure that everything is ready for the Prince’s invasion.

The Messenger compliments Metal Alice’s work on Vrak, the Prince will be pleased.

Metal Alice finishes her repairs and the trio, now working together, vow to destroy the Power Rangers before the Armada arrives!

Metal Alice repairs Cyborg Vrak and thanks him for his protection

The Messenger commends Metal Alice on Vrak’s repairs, his memory is almost fully restored. The Armada thought he had been destroyed.

Metal Alice begins to show Vrak Images of who he was and his place in the Armada in order to restore his memory

Vrak’s memory is restored and now he vows the destruction of the Power Rangers!

Vrak arrives at the quarry and now with his fully restored memory, he vows this is his final duel with the Rangers!

Final Thoughts

What can I say about this episode? It was just simply fantastic from the action to the storytelling. On my Podcast, The GRID, I said that the only tiny complaint I could make was that it was slightly rushed. But, this is to be expected. There were several Goseiger episodes crammed into this in order to make the story make sense but I barely noticed. It really seemed as if this was one pure story being told and not bits and pieces of the Sentai crammed together. The action in the episode was constant and the Sentai footage used looked beautiful from the amazing stunts the suit actors performed (The Troy bridge flip) and the epic battle with Troy and the Messenger!
The original footage was a win in this episode as well. Metal Alice searching the wreckage in search of Vrak and carrying him from the destruction was perfect! The underwater lab footage with the Messenger looked fantastic as well and I am still curious what that symbol behind Cyborg Vrak meant. I recognized it from Goseiger but I am not sure why it is suddenly relevant now. Cyborg Vrak and The Messenger were welcome additions to the villains and I so curious how we will see Vrak’s final form that we’ve been seeing in the opening for months! The Messenger’s voice actor, Andrew Laing (whom also voiced Venjix), was perfect for the suit he is representing and I cannot get over how cool he is. He’s just a badass villain and even though he was just introduced he pretty much handed Troy his ass! This is another example of how well the Sentai footage is being handled in these last few episodes. The Japanese counterpart of the Messenger has a much larger role in the Sentai but being changed to a mere envoy for the Armada fits perfect here considering there is a lot of build up regarding the impending invasion.
Cyborg Vrak protecting Metal Alice was another perfect moment for me, all I can say is I totally ship them.
For me, the stars of this episode were the Villains. I feel like I almost want them to defeat the Rangers I love them so much!
The most amazing part of this episode, for me, was the very last seconds when we got a teaser of what is to come with Gokaiger footage! The Armada is coming and seeing this introduced was very exciting to say the least! I cannot wait for Super Megaforce!
