Let’s breakdown Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger: Brave 18 – “The Deadly First of Kung Fu”
We meet back with our depressed Kyoryuger team visiting King in the hospital, after his injuries from the last fight with DeboMeetior and his eviction as leader by KyoryuGrey. King is not in his hospital room but on the roof with Torin who tells him that KyoryuGrey, Tessai, was the first Kyoryuger to transform with a beast battery.
Torin goes on to say that Tessai wants the new Kyoryugers to be strong enough to defeat DeboMeetior and the DeboLegion since he was not strong enough to do so originally…
Also, Tessai’s bongo intro music is pretty fantastic.
Anyways, Tessai shows up and fights King to tell him that he must scratch Kyoryu’s helmet if he wants to be leader again.
The DeboLegion is growing stronger and DeboMeetior just got an upgrade because of it!
Torin sends King to a dark forest to figure out what his dangers are and sends the Kyoryugers after him to help him!
Some random hippy “catches” King in a stream. Yeah. That happened.
Back in the real world, Utchy isn’t doing so well against the DeboLegion…
In the enchanted forest, Kings sees his father and realizes what he’s scared of and snaps out of his illusions.
Nossan, Amy, Souji, and Ian find King but before they go save Utchy, King must fight/scratch KyoryuGrey.
King scratches Tessai’s head and tells everyone that is he scared of losing his friends. Tear.
Tessai lets them go save Utchy in the nick of time!
Meetior grows and is faced by Kyoryuzin Macho, but then Tessai shows up unmorphed!
Then morphs!
And sends our heroes Bunpachy to create Kyoryuzin Kung Fu!!!! (First time)
Yep.
Then Nossan graces us with one more joke.
And Ramires, KyoryuCyan, hints about the future.
BUT WHO IS BRAGIGAS???
Review
New mecha combo/spirit ranger and King finding his weakness makes this a pretty good episode for closing up plots and moving the show along. I didn’t necessarily love Tessai’s character as much as Ramires, but good enough. Solid episode, 7/10.
