Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger: Brave 10 Review

Alright, the moment we’ve all been waiting for is here! No, not me announcing my resignation from Tumblr, but the debut of Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger’s Sixth Hero: KyoryuGold! Last episode ended on quite a cliffhanger, so there’s a recap at the beginning for anyone who missed it. Lemme summarize it for you: KyoryuGold was possessed by an evil cosplay. Make sense? Good. Let’s start the episode!

The Dogold mask re-attaches itself to Umetsimaru and Torin’s body begins to fall apart.

Ian is able to teleport everyone away thanks to Ovirappoo’s noxious fumes. I just typed that with a straight face.

We then learn a little bit of Torin’s backstory. That he is STILL suffering from injuries from the war against the Debo Legion thousands of years ago. King leaves suddenly claiming he’s figured out a way to beat Dogold, leaving Ian and Nossan to find a way to stop Pteragodon.

Meanwhile, Amy and Souji are still held captive by Dogold, who’s mask falls off in front of them, showing them the truth. While in control for a short time, Umetsimaru attempts to free  Amy and Souji, but Dogold takes control yet again.

Amy asks Souji if he can keep a secret. He promises he can and Amy reveals that… she can work a TV remove using her feet. Amy then uses her feet to untie Souji, and the two escape.Cut to Ian and Nossan using various Beast Batteries to figure out a way to stop Pteragodon. The one shown on screen basically turns the user into Aunt Marge from Prisoner of Azkaban.

Meanwhile, King is having a conversation with a familiar face: Souji’s Dad! King has turned to him for help learning a way to counter Dogolds sword technique, afterwards we get a nice scene showing how much Souji’s Dad has changed since we first met him, as he is very proud and supportive of his sons life as a hero.

Speaking of Souji, we cut back to them fighting their way out of where they were held captive. A monster asks how they were able to escape and, true to his word, Souji doesn’t reveal  Amy’s secret.

The two transform and escape, but once outside are greeted by Dogold and all the other DeboLegion generals.

Dogold summons Pteragodon, but thankfully King was already prepared and charges in with GabuTyra.

Nossan and Ian arrive to, and King asks if they figured out a Beast Battery that can beat Pteragodon. They say they do and hand over Beast Battery #16: Beyonsmo, which extends GabuTyras neck like a Brontosaurus, dragging Pteragodon down to the ground.

The DeboLegion Generals and a few Cambeastians attack the team, and Amy, worried about Torin, leaves the battle claiming to have an idea.

Souji combines his, Amys and Nossans weapons to form another incomplete Kentrospiker, known as the Shield Lance Slasher.

Souji disposes of the Cambeastians. Cut to Kings battle with Dogold. King knocks Dogold backwards with his GabuTyra Fang, and suddenly Torin appears and Dogold down.

Torins spirit leaves his body leaving his spirit in a state of limbo. King must defeat Dogold but without damaging Torins body, or else Torin would be trapped as a spirit.

Torin transfers his own spirit of justice into a Beast Battery, when out of nowhere someone else shows up to add their spirit of justice into the Beast Battery as well: RAMIREZ! Yup he’s back… well… the suit is anyway. As it turns out, Amy’s idea was to summon Ramirez.

King fires the spirits of justice of both Torin and Ramirez into Dogold in an attempt to destroy the Dogold armor.

It seems to have no effect as Dogold gets right back up and jumps into the PteraiDenOh cockpit. However it turns out the plan WAS a success and Umetsimaru is able to, after hundreds of years, break free of the Dogold armor that was possessing him, this also frees Pteragodon from his rampage.

Umetsimaru appears, but tells the others to stay out of his fight.

He summons his transformation device (A brace similar to the DragVisor from Kamen Rider Ryuki/Dragon Knight if anyone knows what I’m talking about) and we get to see the new transformation dance: A very quick Kabuki dance step.

After transforming, Umetsimaru still refuses to accept the others help, and is able to walk through hoards of ParaMonsters, followed by Candelira and Luckyuro.

After taking down all his opponents, Luckyuro creates two gigantic Cambeastians which are quickly dealt with using the newly reformed PteraiDenOh.

Things aren’t all great however, as the fragments of the Dogold armor have vanished! The Kyoryugers (including Ramirez) and Torin approach Umetsimaru after the battle, and Umetsimaru realizes that King looks exactly like a warrior from his time period.

Umetsimaru refuses Kings offer of friendship, and says he’ll only accept after he’s trained King himself, ending the episode.

Review: WHOA. What an episode! Aside from the good overarching story of the episode, there were so many little details that stuck out to me as great. For example, seeing Souji’s dad used as a swordsmanship mentor makes perfect sense. I’m enjoying Umetsimaru as a character so far, he totally fits the ‘ancient samurai’ attitude, and I can’t wait to see where his storyline with King’s ancestor goes. As always, this has been Cody Briscoe, thanks for reading.
