What Made MMPR Great #2: Dragonzord

(Check out the great video to remember Dragonzord!)

“Behold the mighty Dragonzord, now my Green Ranger shall have a zord which he can use to crush those Power Rangers!”
I remember the very first time I saw the Dragonzord rise from beneath ocean’s surface. Many people say that this was the first time they remember watching, in general. Rita’s evil 6th Ranger had succeeded in besting the Power Rangers. In Part 5 of the “Green With Evil” Saga, she decides it’s time to call on his Zord as well. Once the spell on Tommy is broken and he joins the team, his flute becomes the aid to call and command his new zord.
The green ranger called forth his mighty zord by playing a simple tune, which we all remember, on his Dragon Dagger’s flute. The Dragonzord would heed the call and rise from the ocean. As it rose on shore, mostly in a factory district, it let out a roar and eat all the smokestacks in sight. He could also fire rockets from his fingertips.
“Nom…Nom…Nom…”
Mostly, the Dragonzord’s greatest contribution was in his combinations with the established zords of the original five members. When combined he could transform into battle and fighting mode to fight alongside Red Ranger’s Tyrannosaurus. The Dragonzord’s drill tail, when not destroying mountains, would become the sword for the new transformations.
“With our new friend comes new power, use your flute, Tommy and bring life to the Dragonzord, for when he combines with the Mastodon, Triceratops and Sabertooth Tiger; a new fighting machine will be at our disposal. Rangers, I give you Dragonzord in fighting mode.”
The Dragonzord fought many battles with the original Rangers. During Season 2 he was used again as an evil pawn of Lord Zedd to destroy the ThunderZords, but was safely returned to the ocean. Dragonzord, should still be lying at the bottom of that ocean somewhere.
How could I mention Dragonzord and not mention the toy equivalent? Well, I am. Because it is one of the most wanted of the Original Zords, and IMO is the coolest. If you can get your hands on the 1993 Model, go for it. We all know the grim situation with Bandai and the 2010 Dragonzord 🙂 Happy Ebay-ing!
