Tessa Rao’s character on the current season of Power Rangers, Dino Fury, has already begun breaking norms and making history in her short tenure on the show as Izzy Garcia.
From the moment she ripped her skirt off in her Ranger premiere episode the fandom has been enraptured with her and her few focus episodes so far have become fan favorites.
Izzy became the first “in-show” Female Green Ranger, the latest gender-swapped Ranger from the Sentai since Taylor in Wild Force circa 2002 & now she could be the 4th confirmed Queer Ranger in Power Rangers History!
Chance Perez, who plays Izzy’s brother and the Black Ranger, was recently interviewed by FFashionTV Magazine as their spotlight Multi-Talented Artist and was asked about his time on Power Rangers Dino Fury.
In the interview he was asked what his favorite character arc on his season was, he was quoted that Izzy’s was his favorite thus far:
“I feel like there are probably tons of people of all ages who can relate to things that she goes through in her life.” “She is one of those characters that will make waves in modern television in a great way.”

In other words it is easy to discern that Chance was subtly revealing that Izzy’s arc in Power Rangers Dino Fury will be something that fans old and young can relate to. If true, Izzy will become the 4th confirmed Power Ranger to be Queer and the First confirmed inside the television series. In any instance, this will not only make Ranger History but Television History as well.
Trini the Yellow Ranger of the Power Rangers 2017 movie, played by Becky G, was only alluded to be Queer with a throwaway line during a camp fire scene but was widely embraced by fans.
Ari & Remi at the end of BOOM Studios’ “Beyond the Grid” series were confirmed by not only the comic but by the Mobile Game Legacy Wars to be a couple.
Plus, for decades there has been tons of queer-coded Rangers that fans have only dreamed of being canon to the show.
Now, Izzy could stand to be the 4th confirmed character in Power Rangers History and the First in-show canon queer Ranger ever! For many fans, if this revelation comes to fruition on the show, it will be incredibly important for representation in a series famous for its diversity and inclusion.
But, is Hasbro finally posed to do something that Saban and Disney did not dare?
Could there finally be a LGBTQ Ranger in the series for young fans to look up to?
