Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Premiere – August 28th, 1993
Ahhhh! After 10,000 Years she’s Free! Rita Repulsa and her gang of villains alongside 5 Teenagers With Attitude premiered on this day to begin the long Legacy of Power Rangers!
As the years would go by the Power Rangers would unleash tons of merchandise from action figures, video games, clothing and much much more. Power Rangers would earn itself a place as one of the most iconic and most recognizable properties in the world. I mean what Kid or Person doesn’t know the image of the Red Ranger?
Star Wars fans would claim May the Fourth as their Fandom Holiday, but Ranger Nation would claim August 28th as Power Rangers Day!

Season 2’s Prime-time Premiere Episode 3 Parters – July 21st, 1994
Towards the end of Mighty Morphin’ Season One it was largely apparent that Power Rangers was a hugely successful franchise. Season Two was approaching and a new villain was ready to make his fearful debut on the scene!
In 1994 children and their parents alike were treated to something special when Season 2’s premiere episode “The Mutiny, Part 1” premiered. The Episode was the first and only to air during Fox’s Prime-time slot on Friday July 21st, 1994!
The following Friday night on July 29th, 1994 Fox aired “The Mutiny, Part 2” alongside Fox Kid’s Animated X-Men saga.
To conclude the three-part premiere, “The Mutiny, Part 3” aired on August 5th, 1994!

The 100th Episode – February 11th, 1995
There are many landmark episodes in any Television Show that need to be celebrated and one of them is the milestone 100th Episode. Many shows like to celebrate this by doing something special!
I’m not sure if this is was intentional or not, I doubt it was, but for the 100th Episode the Mighty Morphin’ Rangers are in the midst of having been turned into children by the Lord Zedd’s evil Photomare! Alpha attempts to free the young Power Rangers, who are trapped in Photomare’s dastardly photo prison. However, even if the kids are returned to normal, can anything be done to stop the Rock of Time? This was very cool too, cause at this moment was when they showed this kids electric scooters guide to get everybody interested in them.
This episode also incidentally marks the last time the Power Weapons are seen used on-screen.
Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie Premieres – June 30th, 1995
During the early days of Mighty Morphin’ it was a whirlwind of popularity that skyrocketed in television ratings, toy sales and much more. It was totally obvious that a feature film based on the series would come next!
Powered into production while Season 2 of Mighty Morphin’ was still filming (while also having to replace three of their main stars) the first Power Rangers Movie was teleported into theaters on June 30th, 1995 and we’ve been under its spell ever since!
Most fans since can mouth every word, shout every kyahh and snark with every Ivan Ooze line!
While the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Movie came in 4th in its opening weekend behind Apollo 13, Pocahontas and Batman Forever it ultimately earned $66,433,194 worldwide against a $15 million budget, making it a success for Saban Entertainment and 20th Century Fox.
Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie Premieres – March 28th, 1997
The follow-up to the first foray into the big-screen Power Rangers Movie came in 1997 when the Rangers shifted into Turbo.
In this adaptation, the film shifted away from fantastical effects and spanking new suits to stay true to how it would appear on your TV screen. This movie would also mark the first and only time a Kid would become a Power Ranger as Justin takes over the Blue Ranger powers for Rocky.
The Turbo Movie opened at #7 in the Box Office barely making $3,301,135 being beaten out by movies such as Jim Carrey’s Liar Liar (in its 2nd week), Jennifer Lopez’s Selena (in its 2nd week) & even Tim Allen’s Jungle 2 Jungle (in its 4th week). The film barely made back its $8 Million budget back grossing just $9,615,840 worldwide.
End of the Zordon Era: “Countdown to Destruction, Part 2” Airs – November 21st, 1998
Every era must come to an end and Zordon’s send off was one of the most powerful two parters in Power Rangers History.
With the United Alliance of Evil closing in on the destruction of the Universe, Andros attempts for the final time to save his sister. The Rangers and the citizens of Angel Grove alike stand up to the forces of evil in of the most moving moments in the show as well. It was up to Andros to destroy Zordon’s energy tube which destroyed “every villain” that the Rangers had faced up to that point.
It was rumored that Power Rangers in Space was to be the last season of Power Rangers, a rumor that has been attached to many seasons, hence the vast war and destruction of all the villains. However, because of the high ratings of both “Countdown to Destruction” and Power Rangers in Space as a whole; Power Rangers Lost Galaxy was born.
Original Yellow Ranger, Thuy Trang Passes Away – September 3rd, 2001
On a late night on Interstate 5 near San Francisco in September 2001, Thuy Trang was a passenger involved in a violent car accident which claimed her life. She was only 27 years old.
Her ashes are interred at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California.
The episode “Circuit Unsure” of Power Rangers Time Force was dedicated to her memory.

Disney Airs First Episode on ABC Kids – September 14th, 2002
During the beginning production days of Power Rangers Wild Force, the show was being produced by MMPR Productions and aired on FOX Kids like all of the previous series before it. However, Disney acquired Saban’s properties during this time period as well which led to a disruption in airing.
The series officially moved to ABC Kids on September 14th, 2002, Disney aired its first episode with “Unfinished Business” in which Zen-Aku returns intending to once again bond with Merrick, and only by relying on the power of teamwork can the Lunar Wolf Ranger triumph against the living shadow of his own past.
Power Rangers’ 10th Anniversary Special “Forever Red” Airs – October 5th, 2002
MMPR Productions and Disney collaborated to bring us the 10th Anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise in which 10 former Red Rangers returned to the show! (Well, except for Rocky and that wasn’t really the original Aurico….)
The addition of Danny Slavin came a little late, but with a little slight editing, it was almost unnoticeable that he was added in later.
Another interesting note, after the amazing team up “Reinforcements from the Future” with the Time Force Rangers Disney was not expecting to pay for two team ups. So, MMPR Productions had to get a little creative and asked Bandai for more money to assist in their vision for “Forever Red”. Bandai agreed but on the condition that a new toy be introduced in the episode.
Hence, why we have the Wild Force Rider and that is why it defeated Serpentera. It was also rumored that a giant battle in the sky was to take place against Serpentera versus all of the former Red Rangers’ Zords, however, that was viewed as too expensive.
First Power Morphicon Weekend Begins in Los Angeles, CA – June 22nd, 2007
Power Morphicon has become an institution for Power Rangers, Super Sentai and Toku fans alike to gather every other year and celebrate their love of the fandom! From June 22nd to June 24th of 2007 in Los Angeles the first Power Morphicon (and the first Power Rangers convention of its kind) was held! Sponsored by the “Make-A-Wish” Foundation, the convention even boasted the appearances of some of the Time Force, Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive and Mighty Morphin‘ Casts!
To this day, the convention boasts powerful cosplay, wonderful vendors and tons of Power Rangers and Super Sentai actors to meet and take pictures with. It’s always an event each year it takes place!
In 2010 the Convention moved to Pasadena, California and grew exponentially as each year passed even gaining support from Saban Brands, Bandai America & BOOM! Comics!
In 2018 for the 6th Convention, Power Morphicon will move once again to Anaheim, California to surprise us all with another amazing show!
Power Rangers’ 15th Anniversary Episode “Once A Ranger” Airs – July 23rd, 2007
To Celebrate the Power Rangers 15th Anniversary the production team over at Disney decided to bring back a team of Rangers made up of 5 from previous teams. That would include; Kira (Emma Lahana), Xander (Richard Brancatisano), Tori (Sally Martin), Bridge (Matt Austin) & Adam (Johnny Yong Bosch).
To make matters worse for the Overdrive Rangers the team of Veteran Rangers are brought in to assist in their battle against a new enemy. Thrax, the son of Rita Repulsa & Lord Zedd, unites all the factions searching for the jewels of the Corona Aurora and successfully defeats the Overdrive Rangers, cutting their powers off from them and rendering them helpless. With little hope remaining, The Sentinel Knight recruits the new team composed of former Power Rangers to save them.
Saban Brands Reacquires Power Rangers From Disney – May 12th, 2010
On January 2nd of 2010 ABC began airing a re-versioning of the first season of Mighty Morphin’ with strange new sound effects, pop ups, and segues. It is rumored that the new “improvements” that Disney placed upon Mighty Morphin’ did not sit well with Haim Saban, the man behind Power Rangers.
Later that year on May 12th, 2010 it was announced that Saban had reacquired Power Rangers in an estimated deal to be less than $100 Million Dollars. Saban had plans to hire back show-runner Jonathan Tzachor with a deal to air the new episodes of Power Rangers Samurai based on Samurai Sentai Shinkenger on Nickelodeon.
Disney aired their last episode of the re-versioned MMPR episodes on August 28th, 2010 – the 17th Anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise. Power Rangers Samurai premiered on October 11th, 2011 to 2.09 Million Viewers.
Power Rangers’ 20th Anniversary Special “Extended Legendary Battle” Airs – November 24th, 2015
As the Neo-Saban / Nickelodeon Era began to rattle on, the 20th Anniversary loomed nearer. Tensou Sentai Goseiger was adapted as the 20th Anniversary Season of Power Rangers to be followed up with the mega-hit Sentai series Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger as the 21st season.
As the Armada’s forces loom nearer hundreds of former Rangers are needed to fight against them! While the opinions over the quality over this special vary you must give it up to the production team who did get the massive amount of helmets, suits and the largest amount of returning veteran cast member we have ever seen. Sean CW Johnson (Carter), Alison MacInnis (Dana), Patricia Ja Lee (Cassie), Selwyn Ward (TJ), Danny Slavin (Leo), Reggie Rolle (Damon), Jason Faunt (Wes), Melody Perkins (Karone), Hector David Jr (Mike), Brittany Pirtle (Emily) & Jason David Frank (Tommy). Plus cameos from Jason Smith (Casey) and Alex Heartman (Jayden).
Nickelodeon aired the first “Legendary Battle” on November 22, 2014 and then later aired an even more epic extended version on November 24th, 2014 which here is counted as the true episode. The episode premiered to 1.89 Million viewers.
Power Rangers Dino Charge Airs Power Rangers’ 800th Episode – October 3rd, 2015
As we stated earlier in this article, episode counts are sometimes a huge deal in a series. Power Rangers has a long history of being on the air and entertaining children and adult fans alike. To date, the largest milestone we have achieved is reaching 800 episodes which was reached when Power Rangers Dino Charge was airing.
Dino Charge’s Episode “Sync Or Swim” celebrated #800 in which a fun rivalry between Tyler & Ivan becomes a problem when it interferes with the efforts of the Dino Charge Rangers to find and defuse a bomb planted by Sledge’s monsters.
The Power Rangers Movie Premieres in Theaters – March 24th, 2017
On May 7th, 2014 it was announced to fanfare that the Power Rangers would once again be returning to the big screen! Lionsgate would be teaming up with Saban Brands to bring the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers into the 21st Century with new Suits, Zords & Backstories!
The Movie premiered on March 24th, 2017 opening at #2 being beaten only by the Live Action remake of Beauty and the Beast (in its 2nd week).
The movie grossed $141,049,631 topping just over its $100 Million budget. However, massive toy sales seem to have kept the hopes alive for a sequel!
Power Rangers Ninja Steel Returns – August 12th, 2017
I leave you with one last date that is quickly approaching us! It was finally confirmed by Nickelodeon that Power Rangers Ninja Steel is making its return with All New Episodes on August 12th, 2017! So get ready!
