Just as Power Rangers Dino Supercharge is about to premiere on Jan. 30th, the first volume of Dino Charge on DVD hits shelves! Prepare yourself for charged-up action, humor and heart with the first 4 episodes in the season: “Powers from the Past;” “Past, Present, and Fusion;” “A Fool’s Hour;” and “Return of the Caveman.” The set doesn’t include any special features, but it comes with a Digital Ultraviolet code, so you can watch on the go.
Without further ado, let’s jump into this review! It’s about to get wild!
OFFICIAL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
“Get charged up and unleash the mighty strength of the dinosaurs with the Power Rangers Dino Charge! Centuries after intergalactic bounty hunter Sledge tried to get his hands on the mysterious Energems, a new team of Rangers has unearthed the gems, and bonded with their powerful dinosaur spirit. With the help of Dino-fueled weapons, new Mega Zords, and teamwork, they must protect these gems at all costs from Sledge’s monsters and keep the universe safe!”
PACKAGING
Lionsgate never fails to deliver with the packaging for the Power Rangers volume sets! While it’s a bummer to just see Red represented on the front, it’s still beautifully designed! The reflection of Sledge’s transport pods glow in the Red Ranger’s visor, and it looks stunning. When you flip it over, we finally get to see the other Rangers with a very detailed background, featuring lightning and dinosaur bones, and Zords! The disc, as usual, is the same as the front cover.
DVD MENUS
The main menu is a little disappointing, if I’m being honest. It’s not ugly, but it’s just the same damn design repeated. Some flares and moving backdrop effects are added, and the instrumental theme plays in the background. Just plain lazy. The trailers included are for the Super Megaforce “Legendary Battle” DVD, the complete seasons of Megaforce and Super Megaforce on Digital HD, and the complete season of Super Samurai on DVD and Blu-ray.
As I stated at the beginning of the article, this volume includes the first 4 episodes of Dino Charge: “Powers from the Past;” “Past, Present, and Fusion;” “A Fool’s Hour;” and “Return of the Caveman,” that last one being my personal favorite of the bunch.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Let me just say what everyone is thinking: Dino Charge needs to have a complete season set released in Blu-ray. Of course, of all seasons to be exclusively available on Blu-ray, it had to be Super Samurai. And while I’m glad to finally see Dino Charge makes it’s way to home media, I don’t understand the way Lionsgate releases these sets. I mean, the season just ended, so why not release a complete season set? I get the whole wanting to make more money thing, cause Lionsgate also made 2 unnecessary Mockingjay films, but it’s much cheaper for both parties if they’d just give it to us all at us. That sounded dirty, but it’s the truth.
