Preface

Yale’s Diary, Chapter 14:

“There’s a floating blue head walking around in a robot suit.

And, I’m the weird one.”

The Cover

Taken straight from the Mighty Morphin #14 review:

“This is a no-brainer. Awesome unique shot of Zordon suiting up to fight or a good-looking but generic shot of the Empyreals? I mean, come on.”

Mighty Morphin – 7

Power Rangers – 7

The Story

Zartus is searching for the location of Safehaven, but, just as he is about to torture Zelya for the information, Jason, Trini, and Zordon teleport inside the ship and rush through the Eltarian troops.

On Earth, Matt morphs to rescue Grace and other Promethean scientists from the wreckage. However, this alerts the Sentry Force Four to the Rangers’ location and they knock out Tommy.

Back in space, Finster uses some of his Putties to fake themselves as Eltarian guards and free Zelya. Zordon tells Jason and Trini to trust him to handle the ship while they go back with the rest of the Rangers, Zelya, and Goldar’s crew back to Earth to get the Celestial Shard away from Zartus. With the help of Goldar’s crew using some dirty tricks, all 11 Rangers are able to defeat the Sentry Force Four. As Zelya attempts to convince Zeta to help stop all of this, Zartus arrives with the Empyreals ready to incinerate Earth completely.

As the Rangers summon the Zords, Zordon teleports to the ruins of the Moon Palace, planning on grabbing the Zeo Crystal to help the Rangers. But then…

Of course, Zedd’s still alive. We all know he comes back in Dino Fury.

Ending Thoughts

The main highlight of this issue is every single scene with Zordon.

We’ve seen him before in combat through all of the trips to Flashback Land, but there’s something so satisfying seeing the contrast of a younger Zordon just doing his job vs a mature Zordon exerting so much confidence spouting one-liners left and right. Plus, don’t forget, this is a character that always has to spend his time in a giant energy tube. All his character has done for the main MMPR series is give advice and exposition to the Rangers. Having him actively help the Rangers in a fight is an entirely different aspect to his character we never got to see.

Goldar and his crew also get their moments to shine. Originally, I thought that they wouldn’t be too much of a factor going back into this fight, but I’m impressed with how the issue highlights each of their strengths. It feels good to give these characters their own victory (especially since this truce between them and the Rangers is not going to last).

With the art and action still great as ever, Power Rangers #14 delivers one solid victory for our heroes before promising two fights of gigantic proportion: Zords vs. Empyreals and Zordon vs. Zedd.

Random Thoughts from the Morphin’ Grid

  • Do I have anything against Matt in this issue? Well… I can understand him morphing to help, but in hindsight, it didn’t do that much besides starting the fight earlier and getting someone hurt. Just saying… (And apparently, getting knocked out in one blast too. At least Tommy has the excuse of getting shot from behind.)
  • Just realized how absolutely tiny the Tigerzord looks compared to the Dragonzord. It’s something to keep in mind…
