The Story
Back on Safehaven, after Drakkon plays a game of ball with Jason and Zack, Jason slightly nudges Trini on the possibility of restarting their relationship from Go Go Power Rangers…
Anyway, Xi has used his research to track the Empyreal’s movements and found out that they just wiped out a planet with 2.3 billion people on it. Although Trini has a plan to fight the Empyreals with their Zords, Zack wants to recruit a new Omega Blue Ranger to help them. Everyone quickly knocks down the idea of Drakkon being it, though. The Rangers head out to the planet Hartunia, the Empyreal’s next destination, even though Xi points out that the planet is full of really bad people and the universe would be better off without them.
On Hartunia, the Rangers blend in for about five minutes until Zack draws attention to himself punching out a merchant selling living space rats as food. Soon, the royal guards of Hartunia arrive and take the Rangers to their emperor’s palace. The Rangers offer their help in defending the planet from the Empyreals, but their emperor, Rether Til, believes in a prophecy where he is supposed to defeat them on his own and scoffs at the Rangers’ help. As the Rangers are taken down to the dungeons, the Hartunian guarding them are silently attacked from behind and the Rangers are escorted to the bowels of the palace where they’re greeted by the emperor’s wife. Her name is Evor Til and she asks for the Rangers’ help in saving their world…
Ending Thoughts
Not a lot I feel like saying honestly. Good issue.
So, this issue shows off a lot of the continuity from both the TV show and the comic. Like, for example, the Hartunians from the Mighty Morphin’ series. But, it also re-introduces some forgotten story threads like Jason and Trini’s previous romantic relationship and the status of a possible Omega Blue Ranger. Which I want to see, but please don’t let it be Drakkon.
Other than that, the only other aspect of the comic I want to gush about is the bazaar scene. It’s always cool to see an alien sci-fi twist on something normal like people doing anything they can to sell their products to travelers. The confrontation between Zack and the seller here not only shows Zack’s determination to do the right thing but shows the cultural clash of what humans believe and what the Hartunians believe.
Although Power Rangers #7 is a good issue with fantastic artwork and some cool continuity bits, there’s not enough for this issue to stand on its own. Let’s find out how Power Rangers #8 will go.
Random Thoughts from the Morphin’ Grid
- Sorry, Drakkon, the Empyreals didn’t wipe out the dinosaurs. You’re wrong. It’s straight-up meteors from a bounty hunter’s ship because he was looking for the Energems… that were made by the Morphin’ Masters… Ok, wait, you might be kinda right.
- The Rangers wondering who to give the Omega Blue Morpher to and Xi’s in the corner like, “Am I a joke to you?”
- If you don’t recognize the words “Tangarian” and Kalderon featured during the bazaar scene, Tangarians are the race of aliens that Drew from SPD Episode 9 is from. And Kalderon is from the In Space episode “Satelite Search.” Those ones are a bit obscure in terms of continuity but still pretty cool.
