Boom! Studios, the comic publisher that has given us Power Rangers comics for the past ten year has announced through Entertainment Weekly a new ongoing series focusing on a new spin for the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. This new comic will focus on the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers ten years after graduating Angel Grove High School.
Jason has become a martial arts instructor and enjoys working with kids. Kimberly, however, remains in a strange place. After following her athletic passions to become a world-renown gymnast, her dream career is coming to an end in her mid-20s, while all her friends are only just starting to achieve their dreams.
Zack and Trini are both in public service. The veteran Black Ranger now works as a public defender fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves, while the former Yellow Ranger became a diplomat. (More details on her job will be revealed in issue #1.) As for Billy, he stayed behind in Angel Grove to train future generations of Power Rangers.
There’s now a need for the OG superhero quintet to reunite after all this time. Billy opens a portal to transport his old friends back to the Command Center to deal with a threat that’s both new familiar, Rita Rabiosa, described as “a new, terrifying form of an old, familiar foe.”
In this timeline, the original Rita Repulsa still went on to become the Mystic Mother, a plot point from Power Rangers Mystic Force. This new Rita is not the same figure. Ms. Rabiosa, who’s more cruel and vindictive than Ms. Repulsa, needs something from the Power Rangers in order to complete her secret mission.
This Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers relaunch comic will be written by Marguerite Bennett (Beyond The Grid & VR Troopers) and illustrated by Andrew Lee Griffith (Transformers).
Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers #1 will be released June 3rd, 2026.
