Preface
Last issue, we traveled through the multiverse but somehow we found more MMPR Rangers. And, now Psycho Kaiju Rangers! And also, fairies!
The Cover
Wish there was a bit more detail to it, but I do enjoy the concept of this cover with Godzilla and Megazord ready to face off with Rita’s head as the ground they’re moving on like lava. Would also appreciate showing off the Kaiju Rangers as well since this doesn’t indicate anything that happens in this story.
The Story
The Zord battle between the MMPR team and the Psycho Kaiju Rangers is not going too good. So, Jet Jaguar teleports them (including an alternate injured MMPR team) to another dimension in the hopes of recovering. They find themselves at a place called Infant Island and are visited by two fairies that call themselves the Elias. Because sure.
The Psycho Kaiju Rangers are quick to arrive there as well and unfortunately, the Zords have gotten too much damage and can’t fight at the moment. Luckily, the island is protected by another Kaiju: Queen Mothra. Godzilla and Mothra hold the Psychos off while Jet Jaguar teleports everyone back to the main MMPR dimension. Apparently, the Elias had sensed Zordon’s ‘magical essence’ and devised a plan. Using the Elias’s magic, Zordon’s wizardry, and Jet Jaguar obtaining DNA from different Kaiju from across the multiverse, Rodan, Anguirus, Baragon, King Ceasar, and Queen Mothra, five new Power Coins are created.
While both the Green and White Ranger go off to do something, a new army of Rita’s monsters, consisting of Putties, Quantrons, Goo Fish (from MMPR S1), Admiral Abominator (from Zeo), and Horror Bull, Frightwing, and Batarax (all from In Space).
But, don’t worry. It’s Morphin’ Time!
Ending Thoughts
This came out on the same day as MMPR #121… Do I have to tell you that I enjoyed that issue and reading this issue back-to-back with that one gave me whiplash?
Action is fine for the most part with what we get, showing the Psycho Kaiju Rangers and their power (though Mothra in her debut didn’t get squat). The only real story beat in this issue is introducing the Elias all to set up the Kaiju Rangers for the crossover. And, hey, the Kaiju Rangers are actually pretty cool! I love that each one breaks the mold of MMPR redesigns and has the characteristics of their respective Kaiju, but overall, they still feel like a cohesive team.
Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers II #3 brings in more of the Godzilla lore for this crossover as we fight back against the psychos with some Kaiju with attitude!
Random Thoughts from the Morphin’ Grid
- The MMPR Rangers know about the Psycho Rangers? Huh? None of them even know who Astronema is at this point in time!
- My disappointment with this comic is furthered more by this alternate MMPR team. You tease teams like RPM and Dino Charge last time and then you decide to just make up another MMPR team for our heroes to save on top of the other MMPR team that our White Ranger is from? I swear to God, if Astronema is the only non-MMPR thing here, I’m going to be mad…
- DO NOT SEARCH UP THE NAME ‘AIDRA’. I thought maybe the alternate MMPR team might have been some cute Godzilla reference that I missed, but nope! Not that at all. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
- I know Zordon being a wizard was a thing we knew about him, but let’s face it. I think this is the first story to actually use it in any way, shape or form.
