I remember when watching Kyoryuger I thought to myself that there was no way that this monster would make it into Power Rangers. It just seemed a little too out there! But, Beauticruel and “Love At First Fight” while another filler episode turned out to be one of my favorite episodes of Dino Super Charge! It was funny and cute, heartwarming and focused on my favorites of the season; Chase and Poisandra. Let’s take a look back at some of my favorite moments.
Beauticruel and the Makeup: Beauticruel was campy and hilarious the entire time and as fabulous as a Vivix in drag could be. Her monster character was based off a Mae West like attitude and every moment from her speech to her obsession with the male Rangers made her completely memorable.
Beauticruel was more than a simple love spell monster as well, the makeup she used from Poisandra not only allowed love but body-swapping and power absorption as well. That makes her pretty damn powerful. While most of the episode was focused on her finding a boyfriend, those three powers are pretty intense if you ask me and if she hadn’t been so focused on finding a man, she could’ve messed up the Rangers a lot more.
One of my favorite moments was Beauticruel shoving Britney in the dumpster and leaving her there, that was hilarious.
Kaylee and Chase: In earlier reviews, I didn’t really care for Kaylee, but I have to say that I was happy to see her again. I guess I sort of figured she was a one-off character love interest for Chase and we’d never see her again, but when we see that he has true feelings for her during the expanded date scenes I found myself growing to like her much more.
Chase is my favorite Ranger this season; it was really rather sweet how he built a model rocket for her with that adorable inscription and brought her all the space age food and drinks. You could also see in James Davies’ performance how it was hurting Chase to lie to her when he had to leave in a hurry, or make up a story about his friend’s sick fish Bubbles. Even more heartbreaking when she found him with Britney, James delivered a fantastic performance in these scenes.
Chase and Tyler Fight Over “Britney”: I really loved this scene, especially what preceded it. The other Rangers were right that Chase was the right man for the job, that he was the right guy to woo “Britney” and it was even funnier watching him force himself in between Tyler. Tyler under the spell of Beauticruel’s makeup was even funnier. Chase’s moments with Beauticruel where he tries to convince her that he is in love with big red lips, a bob hair cut and that eyes are overrated really made me laugh, clever writing. I loved it!
Editing Goof: What a hilarious goof this was! Someone either forgot about Riley or really loves their Koda!
Kaylee Discovers Chase’s Identity: I was wondering what the real reason to bring Kaylee back could have been. But it was really interesting to have her discover Chase’s Ranger identity. Not many Allies within the Power Rangers universe have discovered a Ranger’s identity and it gets me wondering if there are other reasons why she has discovered it!
It was also pretty romantic to have Chase declare his love for Kaylee right before he morphed, which probably meant a lot to Kaylee.
Silver Ranger’s Message: The Silver Ranger is opening the door for another story line, he needs the Ranger’s help to get back to Earth and to protect the Silver Energem! The Silver Energem could be lost forever! Hmmm, the plot thickens!
I have to say that this episode was just a really fun watch. It had lots of memorable lines, a fun cute monster, lots of action and small but meaningful plot progression that leads us to what is yet to come! We are still getting filler but it was still fun to watch and I can’t get enough episodes that focus on either Chase or Poisandra so I was happy with this episode very much!
