One thing, besides the first two this season, that Dino Charge has been good at is filler episodes! “A Date With Danger”, which I am sure you well know by now, shares a name with another episode from Power Rangers but falls short of iconic status as its predecessor. Strangely, there are a lot of interesting moments in this episode but are also its Achilles heel. While many points are brought up and explored it does seem a little cluttered in my opinion and what is there barely holds on for screen time! Let’s go over some of the moments that stuck out to me the most!
Singe’s Intro: How cool was Singe’s intro? Now that was really bad-ass and not to mention he arrived via a gigantic flaming disco ball! His voice actor was perfect and on point for the Sentai footage and only created a more menacing character. I have no major complaints about Singe so far! I love him!
When the writing played up his headache I absolutely loved it because they took it to a place that Xandred never did! I can’t wait to hear more complaints about that head ache and since he survived we may be hearing that a lot more!
Dear Tyler: A few scenes in, Tyler receives a letter from the last man to see his father alive. Sadly he was interrupted by Singe’s arrival, but later on in the story we meet Rusty who reveals more information about Tyler’s Father. Tyler’s Dad again attains more god-like descriptions as he is now painted a hero. James, Tyler’s Dad, was trapped inside of the rocks and was never seen from again. After taking a creepy look at Tyler’s Energem, Tyler takes his leave with a new key to his Father’s location! Drink every-time we say “Tyler’s Dad”
Master Singe: Again, with the villains we see a shift in power. Suddenly, Wrench is calling Singe master and of course this doesn’t make Fury happy at all. You can also tell that Heckyl is noticing this change and doesn’t have a taste for it either.
Kaylee: Well, I know you will call BS on me for this review of her but I really was not a fan of Kaylee throughout the entire episode. First, I had a dislike for how thirsty her hair was and then I had an issue with how strangely and unnecessarily thirsty Chase was for her. I suppose we aren’t supposed to see the one thing that Chase does, but I just didn’t see why Chase had to go through all these things for one girl?!
It would’ve made more sense to create a character he was into from the beginning, sort of a Joel and Miss Fairweather instead of what we got.
The Kiss on the Cheek: How perfect was this moment? Tyler and Shelby share a little moment about his Father and as he is off he suddenly plants a kiss on her cheek. A kiss that clearly means a lot to Shelby! I really am hoping for a happy ending with these two because teasing them all season is really working!
Dream Date With Black Ranger: While this part of the episode is outrageously never gonna happen, it was still rather cute to see the Black Ranger out on a date in suit. However, let’s be real. No one in Amber Beach says anything about a Power Ranger in suit walking around on a date. This whole scenario was just hard to believe, even for Power Rangers.
Dino Super Drive: I really am enjoying seeing the individual Dino Super Drive Modes at work!
Keeper: Bah! Keeper out of the shadows was a little unnerving but I do love when he pops in for a quick bit of wisdom!
Final Thoughts
A lot of new information, along with a lot of random filler, filled this episode! A small step froward towards Tyler’s Dad, a kiss on the cheek from Tyler AND more uses for the Megazord along with a creepy new villain to give Snide a run for his money!
While a lot cannot be said for a filler episode, but it was a rather decent watch with a few take-back moments! As always I love the actors in this show and even when they are not being center stage they are fun to watch. Always make sure to watch the characters in the background to see what they are doing! Sometimes they are funnier than what is happening on-screen!
However, with this episode there just seemed to be too much going on for it to be solidified as a favorite so far.
