The Legendary end of Super Megaforce is finally upon us. With the long long long awaited “Legendary Battle” airing next week the excitement is building! As the season has gone on the latter episodes of the Season have kept me entertained and kept my complaints to a minimum! However, I still find tiny things to make fun of or critique! Especially when I KNOW they can ado more! In my second to last review of Super Megaforce, let’s take a look at “The Wrath”
Orion Leaves Earth: I am sure that we can throw away this happening by saying, “the Sentai footage didn’t utilize the Silver Ranger enough” but the reasoning here is flimsy at best. Orion is simply leaving Earth, even though we technically know the Armada has not yet been defeated. He claims that leaving at this point is to help rebuild his home planet, which in it’s own is a decent excuse. However, it just seemed out of place during these action packed few moments. How is going to rebuild all alone? Wasn’t everyone killed?
I did however, enjoy the goodbye scenes that Orion shared with each of the Rangers. Specifically his gift and goodbye to Troy which was just perfect. I wanted more scenes like this amongst them all!
Emma & Orion: The ship that came out of no where. I seriously saw literally nothing between these two for most of the season. Of course, I could be wrong (I am a bit dense sometimes.) But during the opening scenes between Emma and Orion I really got to liking the idea of a romance between them! But, the hug they shared before heading towards Orion’s ship, the gift of the flower and the longing glances got me on board! Let the ship sail!
The End of Levira: Levira actually had a few great battle scenes with the Rangers. First, she took to the Mega side and piloted her own Megazord. Sadly, the Megazord was as shoddily made as most of her plans and fell to a cannon blast and Samurai Strike from the Legendary Samurai Megazord.
Secondly, we not only get an interesting Ranger Mode Team of attacks but also get an epic original scene where she fights the Red Mighty Morphin’ Ranger. As much as some, including myself, hate about these scenes it is pretty cool to see the OG Red Ranger fight Levira. Especially with that awesome strike from above with the Power Sword.
I feel like Levira got a great send off having not only a Megazord battle but a battle on the ground with the Rangers.
“New Powers” Legendary Mode: I have to admit that I have two opinions regarding this scene; as I have for many of these Super Megaforce scenes. I will say that the footage used is fantastic (again, from Gokaiger) and the fight with the Red MMPR Ranger and Levira was great to watch. The Original Footage looks great! If you take a far away look at what exactly we are getting here then it is easy to like this scene. New teams, New Keys, Something Semi-Original. Those are the bright sides.
Sadly, most of the time I have been looking at the not-so-bright side. I am still a little miffed, again that SENTAI Teams are getting more love. I mean this is the second to last episode and this is supposed to be an epic scene during the Anniversary season. What could’ve worked here would’ve been all the teams they didn’t use that much. Use Pink Time Force, Black Space, Blue Lightspeed and Yellow Overdrive or some other team that didn’t get much attention. Or any other combos! TITANIUM??? 6th Rangers?!?! EXTRA HEROES?!
If you are going to create new content to get around Sentai footage why add to the scene? Why not just re-shoot this scene? Many of the angles had to be re-shot anyways, but I suppose that CGI is cheaper.
Zord Assualt on the Armada: These scenes were pure fun! Unleashing the powers of all the Zords is probably the most “anniversary” thing that this show has accomplished and again it is all Sentai footage. Watching the “defeat” of the Zords adds to the story and power of the Villains! Love!
But, these scenes are just too cool to watch if you are the kind of sane person that enjoys Megazord battles!
Q-Rex in Mega Winger Mode: COME ON! How can you not mention this? Is it so hard to reference the fact that these Zords and modes have connected to other seasons? In case you are wondering the wings of the Mega Winger from Power Rangers in Space are being used on the Q-Rex Megazord and yet another tie-in is being ignored.
Emperor Mavro addresses Earth: If Power Rangers in Space is being glossed over at least the Gokaiger footage relives the similarities to “Countdown to Destruction” and shows that in this universe we should be fearful that the Power Rangers are defeated and a giant Armada is taking over the Earth. Again, sound familiar?
Final Thoughts
We are nearing the end of Super Megaforce and luckily many of these final episodes are full of action to distract you from the plot-holes and general disregard for previous 20 years of Power Rangers. If you are looking for action and the fun of Power Rangers then this episode is for you, if you are not looking for more plot-holes and disappointment then you probably have already stopped watching in favor of Dino Charge.
It will be interesting to see all that I have to say when “Legendary Battle” airs!
