There is very little to say about this episode without first saying that it felt like the watered down version of its Gokaiger counterpart. There were even certain scenes that were filmed precisely to be identical to the footage. YET, the episode has no where near the same feel as the Gokaiger episode. I am so sorry, I just don’t buy this attitude from Noah, especially since his experiences in “Going Viral.”
Prince Vekar, I am absolutely loving the direction that he is going in. As the episodes go on we get to see him be more flamboyant and sassy just like his Sentai counterpart while keeping him his own character!
I am also living for the voice work, Stephen Butterworth!
Monster of the Day: Skatana was a fabulous MOTD. He had some good one liners, totally belittled Noah so that he doubted himself and then powered through with his Blade of Infinity! The battle at the end was still of the of best! I love when the Rangers unleash former Rangers on the new monsters! Go Rangers Go!
Hey! How can we forget that Former Yellow Ranger, Nic Sampson who played Chip in Mystic Force was the voice of this monster!
The Megaforce Suits & Morphers, please go away.
We’ve now established that the Megaforce suits are not required to be Super. SO NIX EM!
The Ranger Changes, I can’t help but love each and every one of these! It makes it so much better that we are now paying homage to Power Ranger teams and not Sentai! The Jungle Fury change was by far my favorite in this episode AND we got to hear JUNGLE BEAST, SPIRIT UNLEASHED! This almost made me die of a fangasm! Jungle Fury is one of my favorite series in the history and this was just epic! It gives me hope for the Jungle Fury tribute!
However, I know we are only 3 episodes in but SPD SUITS… can you please sit down? Like, your time is up!
You’re like the drunk girl at the party. Honey, go to bed.
Noah and Emma’s Friendship, it was as if it came out of no where. This partnering confuses me a little bit.
It did seem a bit out of no where but it was interesting to see them interact a little closer. They do seem to interact fantastically, but honestly, I am getting super tired of Noah and Emma focus. GET TO GIA, JAKE and maybe TROY???
Again, this scene shown above is the direct….let’s call it an homage…. representation to the Sentai footage. From where they are standing, their lines and even the setting.
Don’t Believe Me? Watch This.
Mr. Burley Dinos?, interesting that for the last three episodes we’ve seen strange Ranger related imagery from Mr. Burley!
In Episode 1 he was about to lose a Dino Egg and now in Episode 3 he asks Jake for help with his Dynamometer.
What is a Dynamometer you ask?
A dynamometer or “dyno” for short, is a device for measuring force, moment of force (torque), or power. For example, the power produced by an engine, motor or other rotating prime mover can be calculated by simultaneously measuring torque and rotational speed (RPM).
I am severely intrigued now…. are you?
The Episode’s Writing, I was very Happy to hear that Jason Smith, former Red Ranger Casey from Power Rangers Jungle Fury, wrote this episode as well as his Jungle Fury tribute! I have to say that the writing was actually what I enjoyed most about this episode. If he actually wrote the line for Prince Vekar “Captain Obvious” then I approve of his writing style which is total action, drama and a bit of comedy.
This style works for Power Rangers rather well, much more than what we ve seen with Megaforce.
However, the writing didn’t benefit one Ranger much, see below.
Noah, was completely out of character for me. We all knew this was going to happen when we heard about the merger of Sentai. Noah is studious, meek, but strong! He is able to battle but figure out more of the technical side. Noah is Billy.
Now, Noah in this scene and throughout the episode is not the Noah we’ve known for 25 episodes. I highly, doubt we will see anything like this again, I am convinced he will go back to his old self in the following episodes.
I do hope so, because at this point Noah to me is all over the place. He’s two people with two personalities. This role should have went to Jake, but I know the Sentai footage could not accommodate.
I do love Noah & John Mark Loudermilk but these scenes with Noah are some of the worst in Megaforce. Yeah, I said it.
Blue Saber Strikes, although I know this came from Gokaiger footage I still must admit that this scene is by far one of the best in the history of Power Rangers! Blue with all those sabers and the power of 5 Ranger teams being used as weapons! Amazing!
I was so happy to hear all of the Power Rangers Teams shouted out and represented!
Legendary Mystic Force Megazord, the footage from this Zord battle is beautiful as the LMFM flies throughout the skies or uses the spell bind attack! Fantastic combination and on its own!
Final Thoughts
While I did enjoy the amazing battle footage, the writing and the Ranger Changes I have to say that this episode was rather lackluster. If it had not been for the awesome fight footage or the amazing lines from the characters this episode would have been rather boring. I found it mostly this way because I have already experienced this episode; back in 2011 when it was in Japanese. A lot of it was copy paste from the source material episode. I cannot overlook this, however I am sure that the 100% Power Rangers audience will not even notice.
Keep in mind that I did not Hate this episode, there were just a few things that were problems, but all together it s a decent romp.
Next week is our return to the Animaria!
