The images of the 38th Super Sentai have finally leaked!
Ressha Sentai Tokkyuger will be based heavily on trains, locomotives and steam engines and features the return of the Yellow Ranger!
The Tokkyugers are said to work with the “Ressha” as they protect the “Rainbow Line” Railroad from Evil “Shadows”!
The Rangers colors and designation are as follows:
TokkyuIchigo, TokkyuNigo, TokkyuSango, TokkyuYongo, TokkyuGoGo
It has been confirmed that the Yellow Ranger is Female.
Each Ranger transforms with the TokkyuChanger which is worn on the wrist, the “Ressha” is placed on the wrist and when the level is lowered they transform into each Ranger. It has also been said that the Red Ranger is able to transform into the Green Ranger but keeps his “1” status on his helmet and suit. Each Ranger is also equipped with the TokkyuBuckle which holds the Rangers’ “Rainbow Pass” that allows them to transform.
Each weapon is supplied with “Ressha” which are both components of the weapons and mecha. So far there are 10 different types which also function as the additional arms for the mecha.
“The TokkyuBlaster, a weapon used by all the Tokkyugers. It has two modes; the ‘Uchimasu’ Mode, which is a gun; and the sword ‘Kirimasu’ Mode. This comes with the Scope Ressha, which can be loaded into the weapon to power it up or form a scope arm for TokkyoOh.”
“This year’s team cannon is the RenketsuBazooka, a combination of each of the Tokkyuger’s individual weapons: the RailSlasher, the HomeTrigger, the TunnelAxe, the ShingouHammer (Signal), and the TekkyouClaw (bridge). When combined these form a 425mm long mini-track for the Energy Ressha to travel along, and then be shot out of. The Energy Ressha can combine with TokkyuOh, but doesn’t look to form anything noticeable.”
The main mecha of the Tokkyuger is called the Tokkyu-Oh and is a combination of each Rangers’ individual mecha:
RedResshar, BlueResshar, YellowResshar, GreenResshar, PinkResshar.
“Also, on this page are two auxiliary Ressha. The first is Tank Ressha, a light blue train, which splits into two parts and attaches onto both of TokkyuOh’s arms to from TokkyuOh Tank. This form fights with a boxing style.
The second is Car Carrier Ressha, the tiny little cars can drive up a ramp onto the carriage. This attaches onto one arm to form TokkyuOhCarCarrier, which fights by using the tiny cars and with “Car Energy”
My Thoughts:
My initial thoughts on these suits are varied. I can see that they are very simple and do hark back to the Train motif which we were all expecting. I am a little taken aback by the simple design behind both the suits and helmets. I have always been a fan of the numbering scheme, especially in Dekaranger so I applaud this use of that system in both the suits and helmets.
When it comes to the suits specifically I was expecting a little more when a Train-Motif was coming. I suppose I expected a little more flair. They are fairly simple with a tiny bit of train station inspired lettering and graphic. Very simple, but effective. Again, I want to see them in action before jumping to any conclusions harshly. I still want to see steam rise from the helmet and go “choo choo” I just do.
The helmets were pretty much expected and I pretty much like them so far. I am intrigued that each helmet is modeled after each Rangers’ type of train, that is very cool! I want to see them in action with perhaps working parts and lights?
As for the visors, I am not a huge fan of this. I was expecting the train tracks to be on the suit rather than on the visor itself. Personally, it’s not my taste to have that kind of distraction over the Rangers’ visor. But, it could end up being used for something unexpected.
However, these suits may be an acquired taste that needs a few episodes to get used to. I can remember back when I saw the first images of Go-Busters (I didn’t care for the leather) and Kyoryuger (I wasn’t a fan of the giant yellow teeth) I grew to like them as I saw them in action more and as I grew to love each of those aforementioned series’ I grew to love the suits as well. Now I am still in love with the leather the G0-Busters wear!
Now, we all know that these images are of the toys and therefore I am intrigued to see what the actual mecha and weapons look like. At this point I may not be that into purchasing the toy mecha for this season, but I said that when I saw the Kyoryuger toys. Look at me now! I have all of the Kyoryuger mecha (but one grrr Bragigas!) but so far TokkyuOh looks like its flimsy and of little inspiration. It almost makes me thing that translating this mecha into a Megazord will be easy for Bandai America. The toy mecha looks like a parody of itself, almost like that Thomas the Train engine meme from a while back.
Again, I advise you to give this a chance. There is no reason to state “Well this is the end of Sentai.” or “I’m never watching Power Rangers when this comes out!” because you really do not know what the story is, the action will be or what it could be like when it is actually made into Power Rangers. Give it a chance, you may actually end up loving this Sentai more than you think!
