Another 50/50 episode from Power Rangers Megaforce. The action was wonderful when it came to the hand to hand battle with Malkor and the Megazord battle with him at the end. However, the manner in which the Sentai footage was worked around seemed to lack especially when it came to keeping RoboKnight busy and away from the action. In order to tell their story and push the plot forward it makes sense the way that the Sentai footage was arranged, however it sadly was not arranged in the most beneficial manner (both to the writers and to the viewers.)
Let’s be clear on this. RoboKnight and the Ultra Powers (including the Zords introduced after Ultra Gosei Great) were not introduced yet in the Goseiger during the end of Malkor story arc. I hope that answers your question why none of these items were used during the battle with Malkor.
But let’s get to what happened!
Aboard the WarStar ship Malkor has emerged from his cocoon with a brand new power!
After admonishing Vrak for his failures to destroy the Rangers, he vows to do it himself!

RoboKnight finds Emma as she photographs flowers and asks her why a mother comforts a child after a fall.
Emma explains it is because she loves her child.
RoboKnight finds Gia next and asks her what is love.
Gia directs him to Jake, as he knows it all.
RoboKnight stares for a moment and leaves, citing there’s no way he could learn anything from Jake.
RoboKnight enters the school and slowly passes Mr Burley who doesn’t notice until it’s too late.
RoboKnight finds Noah and alerts him to his questions, Noah reveals the subject of love has been written about for years!
RoboKnight suddenly leaves with an idea.
In his office, Mr. Burley unwraps a brand new telescope.
RoboKnight heads to the library to find that everyone is afraid of his presence.
This woman cowers but RoboKnight obeys her order and leaves his morpher with her.
As Malkor prepares to descend from the ship he orders Vrak to land the ship in the center of the city after he finishes off the Rangers.
RoboKnight gathers a huge assortment of books and begins to robo-read them all for more information.
A sudden attack sets the city on fire as Malkor lands for the first time.

RoboKnight asks what’s doing and becomes curious about the music.
The Rangers attempt to use their Power Cards to attack Malkor but suddenly their card’s don’t work and Malkor attacks with a powerful meteor shower and departs!
Gosei alerts the Rangers that Malkor has disabled their morphers with a block ray!
Luckily they’ve changed the frequency of the morphers, the Rangers fight on!
Meanwhile the Rangers wonder where RoboKnight is, but he’s too busy to join the battle because he’s getting his groove back.
Malkor appears to the humans and introduces himself and vows that the planet now belongs to the Insectoids!

In the blast, Emma and Troy fly through and attempt to use their attacks!
Malkor uses his powerful planet attack and sends the Rangers flying from the building.
Vrak aboard the WarStar ship apparently is able to teleport them all to a different location and does so.
With the power of the human will, the Rangers continue to battle and valiantly take on Malkor!
The weapons and Zords continue to fail against Malkor, but the Rangers continue on!
After more powerful attacks from Malkor, the Rangers band together and save Troy from an attack!

RoboKnight raps for the Rangers and I died a little on the inside.
Final Thoughts
Let’s get this out-of-the-way cause I know you are just dying to hear what I have to say about this. That was sarcasm. I cannot express to you how much I did not enjoy the RoboKnight rap segment, or any of his segments this episode. While I did enjoy the parts where RoboKnight seeks advice from the Rangers on human emotion, these parts were overshadowed by the cringe inducing rap at the end. While I understand that the episode has to work around the Sentai footage, which did not include RoboKnight or the Ultra Mode powers, but the reason they used to keep him busy was sloppy at best. I understand that we want to have some sort of whimsy in this show but there were so many other moments they could have occupied RoboKnight with! Example, they could’ve had an original fight with Metal Alice and the Loogies or a random monster suit they hadn’t used! I do however understand that money constraints cause them to make certain decisions, and I understand that, but it is in no way less disappointing!
Enough of that. The action in this episode is fantastic! From the destructive battles with Malkor, Malkor’s powerful attacks (such as the Planet Attack, Meteor Shower and his command over Noah’s attack!), the Megazord Battle and the crash of the WarStar ship just to name a few were just flat-out awesome!
Malkor, for only getting one row with the Rangers, really gave them a run for their money! His attacks were fierce, his taunts were vicious and his destruction was Mega! Now, I don’t have a lot of paragraph oriented things to say, so here’s random sentences of things I thought:
Can I also point out that “Rangers Together, Samurai Forever” played in the background during the Megazord battle? Where was Metal Alice all that time? When did Troy become a black belt? Do you see any tears? Gia was not doing pull-ups. Why does Mr. Burley not notice RoboKnight, I mean really? Why was that lady so scared of cell phones? Why were the people so scared of RoboKnight in general? Kudos to the editing team for editing out certain aspects of the footage including the wings on the Red Ranger and Datas in the Megazord battle!
2 More episodes remain for Power Rangers Megaforce (besides the X-Mas Episode) and this one was a doozy in more ways than one!
