I got my Copy of the Lion’s Gate release of “Power Rangers Super Samurai: Complete Season” on Blu-Ray on December 3rd, a day before it was released in stores thanks to the Power Force! I had already seen the Super Samurai Finale on Netflix that same day, but it was awesome to see it on Blu-Ray a week before it showed on Nickelodeon! I thought I’d just share a few of my thoughts with you in case you were on the fence about purchasing this set!
The Blu-Ray comes with a slip cover which is identical to the case inside of it. It has a description of the Season at the top and the episodes listed on each of the discs. It also highlights the Bonus Features as well and a lot of legal information common on DVD and Blu-Ray. But enough about that….
Inside there are three discs featuring the Super Mega Mode Red Ranger (Disc 1: 6 Episodes), Mega Mode Blue Ranger (Disc 2: 7 Episodes) and Mega Mode Green Rangers (Disc 3: 7 Episodes and Bonus Features)
Here is a capture of the menu (thanks to RangerCrew) which I have to say are excellently presented. Each of the 6 Samurai Rangers get their own mini-clip presentation highlighting many things from the actors themselves to Mega Mode transformations and morphing sequences! It’s pretty awesome and I wouldn’t mind a clean version of it on YouTube or something! The menu is fixed at the bottom and does not direct you to another page when you click the different options which make navigation much easier. Sadly, there are previews of other shows and movies at the beginning of disc 1 which I despise, however these do not seem to appear on the other two discs, luckily.
I have to say, WOW, the Blu-Ray version of this Season brings out the luster and brilliance that the show was meant to be seen in and I had never seen Power Rangers so colorful and crystal clear (and my TV is only a 720p so I can only imagine what the 1080p looks like). If there is one reason to get you to purchase this set is to see Power Rangers in this quality because it is truly breathtaking!
The Bonus features are fairly sparse in this release. You get a music video for “Everyday Fun” which for some reason I hadn’t seen before (the music video compilation of clips I mean), the Power Rangers Flash Mob from 2011 and the Train like a Ranger segments. My favorite was the music video and flash mob because I have already loved these on YouTube. I didn’t actually watch the Train Like a Ranger segments because they don’t really interest me, but I am sure some of you out there will love them!
The DVD and Blu-Ray retails for $39.99 and should be in stores since December 4th, but you can also order it on Amazon for a much lower price!
My review score: 9/10 only because the Bonus Features are lacking, however this is made up for with the amazing quality of the episodes and presentation of the menus! I say this is a must own if you have loved this series or if you want to have the very first Power Rangers series on Blu-Ray!
