This has an interesting cameo from Domon/TimeYellow in which he doesn’t interact with the other Gokaigers, but he only appears via hologram to them. Since I didn’t watch Timeranger, I wonder if there’s any reason that Domon couldn’t board the GouJyuDrill for time travel. I’m a little surprised that Gai didn’t recognise the Time Emblem that activated Domon’s hologram, since he usually knows everything about previous Super Sentai teams.
I was really surprised to see that they explained the cameo from the Goseiger vs Shinkenger movie. Like a lot people, I was just expecting this cameo to be unexplained and for promotion purposes only. Even though we saw the same battle from the movie, it’s not a bad thing at all. While in the past, we also see the return of Metal Alice from Goseiger which was good because it reinforced the idea that this takes place during the Goseiger’s time.
As usual, the tribute fight scene was awesome. This episode, we see the return of the Timeranger’s matrix-esque moves, the stop-motion action and the ‘Time Strikes’ (I don’t know what they’re called in Timeranger, so I used the Time Force name), creating a heavily-influenced Timeranger battle. We also see the return of GokaiSilver’s Final Wave without Gold Mode, which I forget he had. I definitely think he should use that more often than always resorting to Gold Mode.
Of course, the Gokaigers save the shrine, but it isn’t explained why this shrine is significant at all, until one of the last scenes. Inside the shrine is a bottle, which is believed to belong to Ninjaman from Kakuranger. If this is true, I like how two tribute episodes have connected. Obviously. I expect this to be revisited at some point in the future.
The scenes between Gai and Mirai were nice, especially since it related to Gai making friends with the Gokaigers. The name ‘Mirai’ is a little weird since it simply means ‘future’. I highly doubt that this is a real Japanese name. The end of the episode reveals that Mirai is Domon’s son. This leads to an emotional ending, which is very unusual for a Gokaiger episode.
GRADE
I really enjoyed this episode from the Timeranger focus to the cameos from Goseiger and Shinkenger. Therefore, I give this episode a 5/5.
The Timeranger aspect of this episode would be easy to adapt for Power Rangers, but the Goseiger vs Shinkenger footage might not fit. It depends if the Power Rangers equivalent of the Gokaigers appear in the Goseiger vs Shinkenger adaptation. If they don’t appear, the plot could easily be reworked into something completely different.
